The new build, 2500, seems to not want to show any basemaps in the basemap gallery. I am aware of the previous bug and thread, and have tried deleting the cache both manually and through the "Explorer Options" menu, but still cannot get the basemaps to show. I uninstalled and reinstalled the new build as well. I did have AGX build 1750 prior to this, but made sure to uninstall everything. I even went into the basemaps folder in the default install location, and was able to open individual .nmf maps containing the different basemaps (except for Bing - I guess these are now "purchase" only basemaps). In addition, the new "Layers" button only shows a blank palette when clicked, with "Loading" being shown, but seems to never load. Not even sure what is supposed to appear with this layers button.  Any advice?   Thanks -Eric

ArcGIS online has been updated and the ArcGIS Explorer desktop 2500 default map, basemap gallery and layer gallery should be working now.

I am using the ArcGIS explorer desktop free version build 2500 and still do not see the basemaps.  A colleague with the same build is also having the same issues.  Is there a solution for the free version or are there steps I need to proceed through to get my system to work?

Thanks.

I have notified the ArcGIS online team, it would appear that they have made another update to ArcGIS online that interferes with ArcGIS Explorer Desktops request for online content (the default map, basemap gallery and layergaller maps).

as a workaround, If you sign in using your ArcGIS online account, and you set your region to "world" in your ArcGIS online profile the content will display.

Thanks for the quick update this morning.  I had to restart Explorer but my basemaps are back.  Great!

I was having the problem of ARCGIS Explorer Desktop not loading base maps on my laptop. Everything works perfectly on my desktop. The solution that I have found that seems to be working is I changed the compatibility mode to Windows XP service pack 3. It is now loading the base maps.

After spending time working through a corporate exception to install ArcExplorer I find myself not able to see basemaps.  The basemap picker shows all the thumbnails but when I click on one I get:

So I thought Ok...maybe AGOL is required now.  So I logged in and afterwards went to add a basemap and no options were available.  Any ideas?

Running Windows 7 SP1 64bit, have all the .NET support, installed AE as 32bit.

Make sure you have access to the following URL's  ArcGIS Explorer Downloads the basemap from ArcGIS online, which makes use of an amazon data store, and the map references services from services.arcgisonline.com

Access to the following URL's will be needs to view the Imagery basemaps.  The other basemap follow a similar pattern.

http://www.arcgis.com/sharing/content/items/394caf40c9224edf9c001f7800292340/data

http://ago-item-storage.s3.amazonaws.com:443
https://ago-item-storage.s3.amazonaws.com/394caf40c9224edf9c001f7800292340/Imagery.nmf? (tokenized)

If access to the above URL's is denied you will see the error message that you recieved.

If access to this URL is denied: (services.arcgisonlin.com)
http://services.arcgisonline.com/arcgis/services/World_Imagery/MapServer

You will see an error message "The basemap contains one or more invalid layers."

Thanks Mark - The first link worked and displayed a session with the three imagery layers. But when I open the applciation from my desktop I dont see these. I'm not able to access the second and third links out to AWS. But here's the deal. I do have an AGOL account and don't have any problems accesssing basemaps or our other maps services on AWS. If I don't have any problems with AGOL, why am I having problems with AE?

http://www.arcgis.com/sharing/conten...800292340/data (works)

http://ago-item-storage.s3.amazonaws.com:443 (does not work)
https://ago-item-storage.s3.amazonaw...0/Imagery.nmf? (tokenized) (does not work - "website declined to show page")

That last link - http://services.arcgisonline.com/arcgis/services/World_Imagery/MapServer - it throws a runtime error.
