Here is the ask: Build a dashbaord that enables the user to run spatial & attribute queries, and have the corresponding map,  data tables, graphs and charts update according to the records returned from the spatial query.

Problem: Currently, data *selections* are not supported via trigger actions in the query widget (this has been confirmed by Esri techincal support). The query widget has the capability to highlight records within the spatial query, but they are not actually selected. If they were to be selected, then action triggers in the Map widget would allow for graphs and charts to update on the fly.

Business justification:

The current workaround takes multiple steps and requires 3 widgets:

1. Using the filter widget, set any attribute filters to refine data

2. Using the query widget or the draw widget, drop a point/buffer on the map to visualize a radius ring

3. Using the selection tool in the map widget, match the circular selection as closely as possible to the radius ring on the map

If the enhancement to allow the query filter to make an actual selection on features, the process would take 1 step and 1 widget:

1. Using the (updated) query widget, set all attribute and spatial query parameters, click "apply" to have features that meet these criteria selected on the map, and the corresponding graphics/tables would be update via map triggers

If anyone knows of a better existing work around, please let me know! Happy to discuss further.

Thanks,

Chris

*In the snip below, you can see that the query filter has run a spatial query of 3 miles on a point dataset and it highlight the features, however there are actuall zero records selected

Yes, this is related to an idea I posted:

https://community.esri.com/t5/arcgis-experience-builder-ideas/make-selection-of-map-features-more-ad...

This is a major limitation.  We have been told by our local Esri reps that we shouldn't be writing custom applications anymore.  Esri will do it all with configurable apps.  We can't begin to buy that idea without being able to do these types of things.

Absolutely agree that the option to create a selection set from the query widget would be very useful as the resulting selection can then be used by other widgets. After all, this is how the query functionality generally works in the desktop apps.

This is badly needed functionality for the query widget.  Please make this happen Esri!
