Real-world Problem: First responders are working on an Urban Search & Rescue team during a tornado or flooding event. To organize their search operations, they use a Web AppBuilder product called Intel Manager within SAR Common Operating Platform (SARCOP) to quickly create search segments and monitor what has been searched. By using the Batch Attribute Editor widget within Web AppBuilder, first responders can quickly select numerous points that they previously assigned as "Needs to be searched" and change this attribute to "Complete - No Follow-Up Needed." This workflow is critical to minimize time spent searching for disaster victims and reduce duplication of effort. Many teams work within the same app. The ability to filter to a specific attribute (e.g., Team Name) while selecting for a batch attribute edit is also significant to reduce mistakes and streamline the workflow.

The screenshot below shows an example incident within SARCOP with about 60 points.

See below, the user can choose to select a group of points by drawing a freehand polygon.

In the screenshot below, the points in the selection polygon were selected and the user can update attributes for the group of points all at one time.

Audience: First Responders, Urban Search & Rescue Team Members,

Technical Problem: Batch Attribute Editor widget is not available within Experience Builder. We are migrating these apps from Web AppBuilder to Experience Builder in anticipation of the deprecation.

Potential Solution: Ability to edit attributes using a batch selection within Experience Builder, similar to Batch Attribute Editor widget from Web AppBuilder. Batch editing attributes without the need to utilize a separate ArcGIS product is important to this workflow because our users are often working in time sensitive environment on a tablet or mobile and might not have any prior GIS experience outside of our app SARCOP.

@ScottStepro1 We also gave up waiting for batch editing in Experience Builder and embedded WebEditor into all our desktop interfaces for all our clients, to finally retire their Web App Builder editor pages. (the only remnants of WAB left in their systems)

Then Esri restricted the access to WebEditor so that the user had to be at least Creator User Type to access it, and all our clients' data collectors  (the ones who need access to it more than anyone) suddenly lost access. Now we are stuck in a chaotic limbo between returning some editor pages back to WAB, borrowing as many Creator licenses as we can, and/or asking clients to edit one feature at a time.

Unfortunately WebEditor is a brilliant product, but we can't use or recommend it.

Bulk editing is still planned for the next release of Experience Builder in ArcGIS Online (end of June 2025).

Thank you for working on this @AlixVezina Please tell us it is not going to be limited to 20 records at the time similar to webeditor. Any updates on when this release is coming out?

AlixVezina

@Miralem_Zeljo Right now, the release is planned to be out by the end of next week.

Also, the records limit was increased with some considerations based on if a Form with asynchronous Arcade expressions were configured. The details for these limitations will be explained with the release documentation.

Thank you so much for the reply.

Hello, I see that there is now an option to check "Batch editing" when the edit widget is in "Interact with a Map widget" mode.  Thank you!

But.... I don't see the same option for Attribute only mode...

Will batch editing be added to the other mode soon?  Should I submit a separate "Idea" for this feature?

The reason I ask is because Attribute only editing allows customization of field view and editability, whereas map widget editing does not seem to allow any customization.

Status changed to: Implemented

Batch editing is now available in the Edit widget when using "Interact with a Map widget" mode, in Experience Builder in ArcGIS Online. Enable the option in the General settings.

Batch editing will also be made available in "Attribute only" mode in a later release.

Hello @AlixVezina, thank you.  Please note that this idea is NOT implemented.  For the batch editing to be used like the Batch Attribute Editor in WAB (as described above), it needs to work on Attribute only mode.  Please let us know the schedule for when this will be fully implemented and if there is anything we can do to expedite that schedule.

AlixVezina

@ConorFlynn Thank you for pointing this out.

Unfortunately, there isn't a "Partially implemented" status option we can use. 😔

The team is working on also supporting Attribute only mode and we'll keep you all posted once we have a clear timeline for it.

@ToddW_stl , sorry for the delay. Batch attribute editing will be in ArcGIS Enterprise 12.0. ArcGIS Enterprise 11.5 users may utilize the latest Experience Builder developer edition to connect to data in Enterprise 11.5 for batch editing.
