ArcGIS Data Store Configuration Issue After Migration

Hi Team,

I hope you all are doing well!

Recently, we migrated our ArcGIS Enterprise deployment to new machine (latest Windows Server OS). Our environment is a multi-machine deployment, and we have successfully migrated Portal for ArcGIS, ArcGIS Server, and the Web Adaptors to the new servers. (Portal and server on the same machine)

However, the ArcGIS Data Store (both relational and tile cache/object store) remains on the same original machine and was not part of the migration. (Data store on another machine)

Currently, we’re facing the following issue:

  • When running the tools utility (Describedatastore.bat) from the Data Store installation directory, it shows both relational and object store data stores. However, it does not display the Portal for ArcGIS URL under the relational data store section.

  • When opening the ArcGIS Data Store Configuration Wizard from the Start Menu, it shows only the object store as configured.

  • Despite this, when validating the data stores from ArcGIS Server Manager, both the relational and object stores validate successfully

Also, the team has not experienced any issues with data loading or service performance so far.

Thanks & Regards,

Kristofer

Hey @Kristofer

From your description and screenshots, I believe that a config file has came out of sync or has changed when moved. In these cases when config files are changed, attempting to fix these can cause major issues on your enterprise environment that would require a restart/reinstallation. I would strongly recommend reaching out to ESRI support in this case, as they will know exactly where you need to go on your Portal and Data Store to get this fixed up!

Hi @CodyPatterson

Thanks for the quick response !!

As you mentioned that a configuration file has came out of sync / changed, could you please confirm which specific config file was modified like ArcGIS Server, Portal for ArcGIS or Datastore config file?

Thanks & Regards,

Kristofer

Hey @Kristofer

The specific file currently is not known to me unfortunately, I believe that the config file would be appropriately fit on any of the three servers, which makes it extra difficult to track down as a user. Your specific description would be very helpful for a technician though, and they would be able to track down the exact file that should have these configurations made. Along those lines, it could even be something entirely different, but the experts know where to find it!

It looks like someone else had the same question a couple years ago. Unfortunately, that question never got answered. https://community.esri.com/t5/arcgis-enterprise-questions/data-stores-do-not-have-a-portal-url/td-p/...

I did find this technical support article though. It's for a different error, but it happens because either the owning system URL or Portal URL are missing. And then it explains how to fix it. But, I still recommend reaching out to Esri support first. They might have a much easier solution than what this article is suggesting. https://support.esri.com/en-us/knowledge-base/problem-unable-to-run-the-backupdatastore-or-updatelic...

Kristofer reached out to me and I have now added the solution given to me by ESRI support.  It is easier than what is proposed in the article you linked, so hopefully it helps in this case as well.
