Portal - adding a user to multiple groups at once - functionality removed after 10.9?

In Portal 10.9.1 we could add a user to multiple groups at once through the Members Detail page.  Now in 11.3.1 (for an existing user that has created their account automatically on login) I can only add a user to groups by opening each group and "Invite Member to Group" and searching for the users account and adding them to the list.

With the previous workflow in 10.9.1 I could find the user in the members page and add them to all the groups they needed by simply clicking a box next to all the groups and get them added all at once.  This new workflow is much more inefficient especially if adding them to a handful of groups or more.

I'm aware there is a workaround workflow if I'm creating the user account for them as an admin, but our Portal is configured to create their account on their first login.

At least as of 11.2, that functionality has not been removed. I'm able to select the user on the members page, and then specify what groups they have access to.
