Hi everyone,
I recently learned that Map Viewer Classic is due to retire after ArcGIS Enterprise 11.5. As a system admin, I am curious about if Esri has provided us with any resouces regading migrating from Map Viewer Classic to new Map Viewer?
We have a lot of web maps authored using Map Viewer Classic, and sometimes they have glitches displaying correctly using the new Map Viewer. For example, symbology not showing as it should be as in the Map Viewer Classic app.
So is there any tools available that can fix this kind of errors in web maps? I understand there are many discrepencies betwen JS API 3.x and 4.x, and we don't have the resources to create the script in-house.
Any sugguestions other than asking users to recreate web maps using the new map viewer?
I don't think there is anything provided from esri. I had to convert my items to Map Views and configure pop-ups, labels, symbology, etc for each map.
Exactly, Esri should have come up with some solutions by now
I'm not aware of any documentation that discusses migrating from the classic to the new map viewer. This blog post is the most I could find. https://resource.esriuk.com/blog/moving-on-from-arcgis-map-viewer-classic/
But as far as migrating, technically, any web maps that are created in classic are already created in the new map viewer. You can choose to open your existing maps in either classic or new map viewer. They shouldn't have to be "recreated." Theoretically, they should just "work" in the new map viewer.
With that being said, one of the things that I've found that doesn't just "work" are relationship classes. In the classic map viewer, relationship classes are automatically inherited from the feature service and viewable in the pop-ups. That is not the case in the new map viewer, and those relationships have to be manually defined to be viewable in the pop-ups. And in your case, I'm sure there are other things that are different, like symbology. But unfortunately, I'm not aware of any documentation that lists things that are "different" in the new map viewer that have to be manually changed from the classic map viewer. I think at a minimum, all maps will need to be reviewed in the new web map viewer to ensure they are working as intended.
Yes, I think a script should be provided to us letting us know exactly how many webmaps in the organization will be impacted after the update, this will significantly reduce the time spending on inspecting all the webmaps.
