I am creating a series of maps at 9K to 2,304K scales for a tiled cache for ArcGIS Server. Processing times for the largest scale parts of the cache are taking a long time to complete. Experimentation suggests that replacing the symbols for swamps, state parks, and ephemeral lakes which use .BMP based pictures can be speeded up by using the ESRI Optimized set of symbols. My problem is that the selection is limited and the colors are not what I want. I would like to know how I can modify the colors in the ESRI Optimized symbols which are based on .EMF pictures. I have searched in the likely places for the .EMF artwork but do not find it. Maybe it has another suffix. Advice on how to procede would be appreciated. Or if there is an expanded version of the ESRI Optimized symbols available maybe there would be some that I could use.
