Errors to content after Upgrade to 11.1

We recently upgraded our Server to 11.1 and have noticed that some layers are now inoperable.  If a web application has one of these layers in it, it will prompt for a login - even though everything seems to be shared to the public.  The layers all show up in the ArcGIS Server Manager, but they do not show up in Portal.  In Portal, it is blank for a title and only shows Unknown.  If you figure out which service is "broken", you can stop and delete it from the manager, but you can't delete them from the Portal.  Does anyone know how to either fix these "Unknowns" or how to delete them from your portal?  Has anyone else run into this problem?  Any help would be great.  Thank you!

Hello @CynthiaKozma ,

I would suggest, if you can run a check on Portal Index, is it operating correctly. The below documentation explains more about it

If this doesn't match properly, Can you to run a full reindex once by following the below documentation:

Reindex : https://developers.arcgis.com/rest/enterprise-administration/portal/reindex.htm 

Please be aware of the following (for Production environment scenarios) :

  • The reindex operation may take a while to finish. During this time, the index service may not respond correctly to index queries.
  • Portal content and search operations will be unavailable until the reindex is complete. Performing the reindex operation during system maintenance or downtime is recommended.

It looks like the system did a reindex during the update process.  We will try to run the reindex again tonight when fewer people are using the server.

As a follow up, though, this is the problem that we are running into...

This Unknown is a Web Mapping Application that was fully functional before the upgrade....now it won't open and you can't see the details, it only sits and spins when clicked on.  When you try to open it from the URL, it says 'Your account is not licensed to use an app that is not public.  Please ask your organization administrator to assign you a user type that includes Essential Apps or an add-on Essential Apps license.  Do you have any ideas or clues on how to remedy this?  We are at a complete loss.

@CynthiaKozma This looks like an orphaned item, which you will not be able to delete from portal/home/contents.html. 

Consider deleting this from sharing/rest or Command line utility.
