I'd like to request the addition of light mode (dark text on light background) to ArcGIS Drone2Map.
The current dark-only interface causes significant readability issues for me and likely others. Light text on a dark background triggers a halation effect, where bright elements appear to bleed or glow into the surroundings, making text smear together and difficult to focus on. This quickly leads to eye strain and headaches, limiting my productive use of the tool.
This isn't just personal preference:
- Halation is exacerbated in dark mode for people with common conditions like astigmatism, as the dilated pupil in low-light emission scenarios worsens focus and creates blurry halos around text.
- Studies show dark mode can reduce readability and increase eye fatigue for many users, particularly in brighter environments or with prolonged reading tasks, contrary to the common assumption that it's universally better.
- Accessibility best practices emphasize user choice in themes, as no single mode suits everyone. Some benefit from dark mode in low light, while others need light mode for clearer text and reduced strain.
Many Esri products, like ArcGIS Pro, already offer light and dark theme toggles. Extending this to Drone2Map would greatly improve accessibility and usability for a broader range of users.
