idea for Story Map Cascade It would sure be nice to simply point the cascade template at an existing story map by ID. It seemed to grab the title but nothing else. Is there anything in common between the new template and existing story map templates such as map journal? Is it really necessary to start over from scratch in the builder?

Not here. We have loaded some basic data, but generally run into headaches with it, so it is just a stale copy of our real data that is incomprehensible to editors and database users. I've wasted far too much time trying to adopt this model. I'm about to give up actually. We don't have the resources to make it happen like Naperville I guess... We tried the special event template stuff first, and it's just not how we do special events. We do have very special events, and this data model is not needed for them, ever. I assumed things were different in other places where this data model could work. As I consider all our other departments and maps, it's rather clear most of the data model is not for us either. We have some data that does not fit, like tunnels, so will always have another db to maintain. Thanks for your post. Spencer Park City, Utah

Hi - I'm using the ArcGIS for iOS App (not the API) to connect to our server hosting a mobile web map, which has some secure services. The "everyone" services appear in the app just fine. The secure services do prompt the user for authentication, and I enter the proper credentials (that work on the rest endpoint in a browser) but it continuously prompts for username and password. If I cancel it prompts for the next secure service. Eventually, I see the map with unsecured service(s) and the Info view shows the entire list of services in the mobile map. But I don't actually get the data of course. What could be wrong with my security configuration? I'm using ArcGIs Server 10 SP1 and iOS APP 1.8.5 Thanks,

Should this example do anything more than return the graphic? Identify usually means the results are returned as attributes in a table, or info window of some sort. Does the graphic signal a successful identify task and the rest is left to our imagination, or did I miss something? Thanks, Spencer

That makes sense - I had removed the xml stuff when I saw this newer function. And yes, it would be great to see your final code. Thank you!

Thanks, I am changing the mxml, but the issue for me is the fields that were nicely specified in Robert's older example since the tool only worked on one service, the layer and its fields could be contained in the XML tags. Now, we have a layer.id that is giving a service to use and the layerIds = [0,1] for the layers in the map, but I don't get to say which fields. Of course its just so I don't have to disable fields in the layers of the service itself. I suppose I need one more parameter. Or am I confused?

Would it be possible to do the same multi-layer, specific fields identify as your sample single-layer, specific fields, using only the XML to pass the fields? I was think of trying tags such as <layer>SLO</layer> <fields>message</fields> <layer2>FPZ Overlay</layer2> <fields>message</fields> <layer3>ECPZ Overlay</layer3> <fields>message</fields> Below is the "latest" code you posted on point: //identify features
private function identifyFeatures():void
{
var identifyParams : IdentifyParameters = new IdentifyParameters();
identifyParams.returnGeometry = false;
identifyParams.tolerance = identifyTolerance;
identifyParams.geometry = identifyPoint;
identifyParams.width = map.width;
identifyParams.height = map.height;
identifyParams.mapExtent = map.extent;
identifyParams.spatialReference = map.spatialReference;
for (var i:Number = map.layerIds.length -1; i >= 0; i--)
{
identifyParams.layerOption = identifyLayerOption;
identifyParams.layerIds = null
var layer:Layer = map.getLayer(map.layerIds);
var url:String;
if (layer.visible)
{
if (layer is ArcGISDynamicMapServiceLayer)
{
var dynamicLayer:ArcGISDynamicMapServiceLayer = layer as ArcGISDynamicMapServiceLayer;
url = dynamicLayer.url;
if(identifyLayerOption == "visible")
{
identifyParams.layerIds = dynamicLayer.visibleLayers.source;
identifyParams.layerOption = "all";
if(dynamicLayer.visible == false)
url="";
}
//This is the new code
//Change Parcel Data to the map service name of yours you want to use
//and change 67,68 to the layer numbers of yours
//in the else url=""; is what makes it ignore all other map services
//if there name is not (in my example) Parcel Data.
if (layer.id == "Parcel Data")
{
identifyParams.layerIds = [67,68];
} else {
identifyParams.layerIds = null;
url="";
}
}
else if (layer is ArcGISTiledMapServiceLayer)
{
var tiledLayer:ArcGISTiledMapServiceLayer = layer as ArcGISTiledMapServiceLayer;
url = tiledLayer.url;
if(identifyLayerOption == "visible")
{
if(tiledLayer.visible == false)
url="";
}
}
if(url)
{
var identifyTask:IdentifyTask = new IdentifyTask(url);
identifyTask.addEventListener(IdentifyEvent.IDENTIFY_COMPLETE, onResult);
identifyTask.addEventListener(FaultEvent.FAULT, onFault);
identifyTask.execute(identifyParams);
showMessage(loadingLabel, true);
showStateResults(null);
}
}
}

Hi, I am trying to get the Service Area widget in the sample viewer 1.3 to return a graphic that is already projected to state plane to match my basemap. Currently, the widget locates a point on the map and computes the service area, but the result is in a different coordinate system than the point submitted. Does anyone have any ideas what I can do to force the result geometry and/or graphic to be my (map.spatialReference.wkid), or to have geometryService.project() the result of service area? Thanks, Spencer
