I had a similar, unanswered, question about what these Ex services do. https://community.esri.com/thread/219675-publishingtoolsex-synctoolsex-what-are-the-ex-services Some documentation would be great...

I'm not aware of any documentation. I think CPU would be less if layers were grouped under a single service in your scenario. I think it would work like this - 27 different services. You load your map - each of those 27 services are being hit simultaneously (that might not be technically true, but close enough for example) and stressing the cpu at the same time. 27 layers under 1 service. You load your map - the single service can only serve 1 request at a time (or however many instances you gave that service) so they get queued up and will go through the requests one after the next. So the cpu load would be the equivalent of one request rather than 27.. but the caveat is that it takes longer and depending on how much traffic you get, some requests could take a while and some could completely timeout. There's probably a sweet spot somewhere in between. If you have AGO or Portal, you can import each layer from a service as a 'Feature Layer' and create a catalog for users to grab from. e.g. arcgis/rest/services/someService/FeatureServer/0 is used to create a distinct Feature Layer in AGO arcgis/rest/services/someService/FeatureServer/1 is it's own distinct Feature Layer in AGO, etc.

Server 10.5.1 Whats the difference between the PublishingTools, SyncTools, CachingTools and their Ex versions inside the System folder? I now know that PublishingToolsEx is required to register a data connection with the data store, but I cant find any documentation on what these do exactly. The reason I ask is because I was troubleshooting an issue where I couldn't register a new data connection. I noticed the logs mentioned something about not finding the service PublishingToolsEx. I didn't have one. I then found Problem: Publishing a feature service to ArcGIS Server fails after ArcGIS Server is upgraded I had recently upgraded to 10.5.1 from 10.4.1, so I guess that explained my issue. I recreated the PublishingToolsEx service as described in the article. I poked around the web and found that there should be other *Ex services as well. What are these? Do I need to bother recreating the Sync and Caching ones? If so, do the instructions for PublishingToolsEx work? e.g. SyncTools - Just change the name to SyncToolsEx and provider to ArcObjects11 ? Paste the JSON script copied in step 3 and replace "serviceName": "PublishingTools" with "serviceName": "PublishingToolsEx" and "provider"."ArcObjects" with "provider"."ArcObjects11". Thanks, Matt

Did you give it some time for it to unpack? It seems to be variable. You can see the status of the job by going to your organizations tile rest services (copy from URL box in bottom right of the item's detail page in AGO - trim everything after ..rest/services) It should look like https://tiles.arcgis.com/tiles/<your-org-string>/arcgis/rest/services Click Login in the upper right Browse to the vector tile service you just published. Click 'Jobs' next to Resources. Check the status. If it says DONE and the tiles still dont show then it is probably something else.

Cool. You can also add Commandline to that command to get info on which service the ArcSOC is tied to. wmic process where name="ArcSOC.exe" get name, processid, creationdate,Commandline

I have experienced this as well. Windows 2012R2 ArcGIS 10.4.1 Multiple times have I had low memory warnings only to find a lot of instances of service in task manager. I shut the service off and a few of the ARCSOCS (tied to that service) go away, but many are left behind. I just end the processes in task manager, turn the service back on and schedule a reboot for that night. I first noticed this this past December. It has happened at least 5 or 6 times since.

I just came across something similar. We were using the following as part of query against an ArcGIS Server feature service for a few years EXTRACT(HOUR FROM ACCIDENTDATE) > '6' We moved that service to a hosted service in AGO and that query no longer worked. We got the same error message as Justin above. Removing the apostrophes and adding &sqlFormat=standard to the querystring made it work. Not exactly sure why though.

Hi Andrea, Yeah - It turned out to be an issue between our DNS provider and Amazon Web Services. The resolution I got from the network admin was "Resolution: Increasing TTL on ns1 and ns2 resolved the Amazon DNS issue" ns1 and ns2 are DNS servers. " This is the ticket I submitted to our network admins for some more context: --Original Details of Ticket-- Summary: DNS issue Details: I have been working with our GIS vendor, Esri, to resolve an issue where one of their products could not always resolve vtransmap01.aot.state.vt.us (our GIS server). Their service is hosted in the Amazon cloud. They discovered that NS1.state.vt.us is blocking the name query from Amazon Web Services. Could someone check on this please and correct any issues blocking Amazon Cloud. This is the particular message from Esri Support "I pulled in some additional resources to check on this issue, as it seems out of the ordinary. After a few further tests, we are seeing that the DNS server at NS1.state.vt.us is blocking the name query from AWS. This would be an issue that would need to be addressed by the manager of the DNS server at NS1.state.vt.us. I hope that these details help and apologize for any confusion as we continue to troubleshoot." "

This doesn't answer your question about wildcards, but for this example you could do IIF(Find("Landowner", Field1) >= 0), "True", "False") which will search Field1 for the word "Landowner" and return it's position. If the position returned is >=0, Field1 contains the word "Landowner".

I think if you are using HTTPS, administration through web adapter is fine. If you allow HTTP (and probably a lot of folks do) and you log into server manager using HTTP, your admin credentials are sent in clear text which would allow anyone, that cared enough, to get them. I think they recommend disabling admin access through port 6080 when you are using web-tier auth. In which case you would have to authenticate at the web-tier (which is only done at the web adaptor). The only user that could authenticate through :6080 would be the primary site admin account. Web tier auth pretty much requires HTTPS unless you are behind a firewall.

No, in an AGO map you can add a reference layer and then "move it to the basemap". The first image kind of illustrates this. The "Navigation Overlay" has already been moved to the basemap. That is the layer that is disappearing in a published WAB.
