Deepinder, Thanks for your response. I've tried both approaches and have been unsuccessful. 1. You can use the Import 3D Files GP tool to bring your DAE models into a multipatch feature class. Please refer to this help topic on the GP tool: Import 3D Files—Help | ArcGIS for Desktop I've tried this approach a number of times and I've never been able to get something to work. I don't get an error with the GP tool but either a.) nothing shows up or b.) the model is imported but it's completely flat (see attachment 1 for how it looks in ArcGIS Pro and attachment 2 for how it looks in City Engine; exact same file). I've tried different settings on the GP tool but the results are always the same. 2. You can also use COLLADA models to symbolize point features, make the required symbol edits and then you could export out to a multipatch feature class using the Layer 3D to Feature Class GP tool - Layer 3D To Feature Class—Help | ArcGIS for Desktop - note that if you save the output as a shapefile then textures will be lost. So you should save output as a gdb feature class. The problem here I believe is that the models are fairly complex (between 200,000 to 5 million polygons) and so when symbolizing the point, ArcMap just bogs down and becomes unresponsive.

I'm looking for a workflow to be able to make edits to collada files within CityEngine or ArcGIS Pro. Currently we receive collada files from proposed developments that we incorporate into CityEngine and then use in the application process. Often the proposed models need a few edits to ensure they fit the proposed site and context appropriately. I've had success bringing the collada files into CityEngine as a static model and exporting them out as multipatch files (which can then be brought in and edited in CityEngine) but doing this loses the texture attributes. If I bring the collada model in as a dynamic model for editing, the textures are lost as well. My attempts in ArcGIS Pro have been confusing and unsuccessful. The model usually comes in completely flat. Does anyone have a proposed workflow for this? I'd really like to not have to resort to a third party application (Sketchup, Blender, Meshlab, etc.) but will if I have to.

I'm using 2015.0, 16gb RAM, and a NVIDIA Quadro K620 video card. Like I mentioned previously it happens quite a bit to me but I haven't logged a bug or anything yet because, eventually, I'm able to get it to work.

Has anyone else had issues where when opening a scene, all facades are rendering as black squares. This happens to me about 20% of the time I open CityEngine and so far I've always been able to shut it down and reopen it to fix it (though sometimes I've had to this three or four times). Is this a bug? The screenshots below were my first attempt at opening a scene this morning (Capture 1) and then my second attempt a few seconds later (Capture 2) after I shut down CityEngine and reopened it.

Was the search and find a feature in a layer ability added to 1.1? I'm unable to find it anywhere.

If you have a chance, how were you able to import the .dae files? I've read the documentation but been unable to make sense of it.

You're right, I did have both shapes and models turned on and turning off the shapes solved the conflict. However, I was still experiencing a few other invalid geometry issues so I converted the feature class data into multipatch in ArcMap and then brought them into CityEngine which seems to work better. I'd be curious to know which workflow the CityEngine developers would recommend. Is there much of a performance difference either way?

This post seems to address a similar problem but it's from 2013. Matthias Buehler would you still recommend the same solution or have the terrain tools been updated so as to handle this differently?

Nathan The issue isn't with overlap on the terrain imagery (in fact I've turned it off) it has to do with the imported shape itself. The first attached picture shows the shape after it has been aligned to the terrain (Project All option). Everything seems fine but when I try to apply a color or texture I get picture two as a result. I have also tried to extrude the shape slightly, apply a texture and then align to terrain but the results are odd, I think because of the varied terrain. Would converting the data in Arcmap to Multipatch Polygons help? I could set the z value to something very small

What's the best way to align shapes (in this case water features) to a terrain and still be able to apply textures? If I use the the Project All option I can get the shapes to align properly but whenever I then go to apply a texture I get the flickering facades.

I'm having inconsistent results with the crop image tool. When it's accessible it works fine but it only seems available some of the time (greyed out the rest of the time). I've also never been able to crop the image from the File Navigator context menu though help document says this should be possible. Are these bugs? Anyone else have the same issue?

Chris, That rule works pretty well. I'm using it to model existing buildings though and for some of the more unique buildings should I do the touch up work (roof articulations other than flat, hip or gable; isolated balconies; ground floor columns, etc.) in another 3d editing software. Is it possible/advisable to edit vertices in CityEngine similar to how it's done in ArcMap? Can this be done in ArcScene or ArcGIS Pro?

What's the most efficient way to generate 3d massing models in CityEngine? I have access to lidar data and recent oblique imagery. I know I can generate volumetric buildings fairly easily but I'm looking for something with accurate massing and roof articulation (like the attached picture). Should I be trying to do this in SketchUp instead? I have several to do so I'm looking for something other than modeling them each manually.
