I am finding that the open data site builder that comes with ArcGIS Hub does not play well with code developed using ArcGIS API for Javascript. I hope to see ESRI move toward making their web-related SDKs work seamlessly within ArcGIS Hub open data site builder, as much as possible. Cheers, Lee

Where do you work and what is your role? Hello! My name is Lee. I am a GIS Programmer Analyst at County of Sonoma (Sonoma County, California). I have been here for about 10 years. I worked in the County's Transportation & Public Works Department, as a GIS Technician, until about a year ago, when I was promoted to my current role at our central IT department. Since then, I have moved away from data editing and field data collection, and am now working on programming data processing models in python, developing web applications in ArcGIS Online, providing system admin/database support (managing users, roles/groups, etc.) to our end users, and developing open data websites in ArcGIS Hub. What GIS success have you had this year and what product did you use? (big or small - no win is out of bounds) My biggest success this year was building an Open Data site for my former department, Transportation & Public Works. The site acts as a comprehensive inventory of our County-maintained road system, a hub for interactive maps related to County roads, as well as proving information about past and future road paving projects. (Check it out here, if you like.) This project turned out to be very well received, we are now creating open data sites for other topics within our organization (emergency management, zoning and permits, etc.) What is your expertise (GIS related or not), and how can that help the community? In terms of subject matter, my background is in civil engineering, specifically in the management of roads and highways, road-related structures (bridges, street lights, etc.), road maintenance management/work order systems, and road pavement management. My GIS work experience includes the following, in chronological order: field mapping using GNSS, digitizing and data editing in ArcGIS, data analysis and reporting, database design and architecture, model building and python programming, and GIS-integrated web development. How can this help the community? I believe what I have seen: that GIS can be used to vastly improve working processes in government, thereby allowing public agencies to better serve the public good.

Thanks for the reply, Sydney. Yep - I love that widget! We use it in most of our web apps. ... Unfortunately though, our Web Team has deemed that it is not ADA compliant, whereas the table produced using the Javascript API is. Also, embedding an attribute table directly on a web page offers a qualitatively different user experience than having it in a web application. In this situation, we really do need to embed the table.

I need to display a hosted feature layer's attribute table in an Open Data site (ArcGIS Hub). Can someone please tell me the best way to do this? To explain, we have an open data site that displays a road closures map, and beneath the map, we want to display a list of the road closures that are shown on the map -- hence, the need to display the hosted feature layer's attribute table. Here's the site, so far: http://roadclosures-sonomamap.opendata.arcgis.com/ I have tried using the FeatureTable dijit (Javascript from the ArcGIS API for Javascript) ... Here's what I have discovered so far: Using this code directly in an ArcGIS Hub open data site doesn't work, for some reason. The site builder seems to recognize it, but then it doesn't render it when in view mode. The only way I can get it to display in an open data site is by using the iframe widget. This requires me to host the Javascript on an external html file on our local server. This solution is ultimately not going to work for my organization's needs. Since this is part of a disaster response system, we need the entire application to be hosted on the cloud. I have also discovered that the column ordering property the FeatureTable dijit function doesn't work. When you re-order the array that lists the column order, the columns are supposed to re-order. But they don't. (I have already shown this to ESRI's SDK Team, and they are looking into it). Any further input would be greatly appreciated ... Thank you! Lee

Hello fellow GIS nerds! So I created this "Legend" concept using the Filter widget. (I gave the widget a different thumbnail image.) Our users like having this concept as a legend, because ... Each item has a convenient on/off switch. Unlike the "Layers" widget, you see the legend symbol without having to expand the layer. And it's nice and clean. Expanding the layer allows the user query what features to see. When you turn the switch on, the map zooms to whatever features are returned for that layer's query settings. In order to make the on/off switch work the way we like, I have to "trick" the widget by putting a filter on the source layer in the source web map that filters out all records (e.g. OBJECTID = -1) ... Then I tell the Filter widget to override the layer's web map filter, whenever the layer is switched on. It would be really cool to have a widget that allows users to set up their legends this way, but without having to use that trick. The map in the above image is password-protected, so I won't link it here. But here is another (publicly-accessible) example of using the Filter widget as a legend: Road Sign Inventory Viewing Application This app has the on/off switches, but no filtering capability (yet). Very curious to hear people's thoughts about this.

(I am reposting this because I was logged in under the wrong account when I did it the first time ...) I had been avoiding using the "Web Map" widget (ArcGIS Hub site builder) because it didn't have an option to add a legend. I just discovered that they added a legend option, which is terrific! However, now when you click on a feature in the map, the feature's pop-up box is half hidden beneath the legend. Also, if you click on something with a pop-up, and then click away from it, the legend disappears entirely. It then comes back if you click on a feature with a pop-up. I believe this is a bug. ESRI, can you address this issue? Thank you!
