Backend Business System Integration

We have had a number of recent client requests wondering about backend integration with ArcGIS Online. An example is below:

"How do we tie data in a hosted feature service to our business-financial database, where we track the cost of maintaining the assets or responding to the events for which information is collected in the field"

We have also had requests on SAP integration. Are there docs or discussions on AGOL backend integration with other business systems?
