Google Maps won't display layer

I had a perfectly functional Google Maps application that was working fine until this morning when (while instructing someone else on how to use Server Manager), using Server Manager, I redirected the Map Document address (on the Parameters tab) to the same address that it already had.  I did not change the address.  I simply browsed to the same address that it was already using.  And lo .... once I hit "Save and Restart", the layer was gone from any Google Maps javascript applicatiion.

Does anyone have any idea what the cause might be?

This sounds more like an ArcGIS Server issue but can you still see your service and preview it from the ArcGIS Server services directory?

Yes the service shows up on the service list but there is not image in the upper left corner (just a black box with a red "X" in it.

But, as an ERSI rep showed me on the phone, you can successfully "View in: Javascript" but when you click on "Export map" on the bottom of the service page, you get no image, just a black box with a red "X" in it.  He said that Google maps uses the export method to get the image so the latter view of the image is more relevant.

The API (either the ArcGIS API for JavaScript or the google maps extender) does indeed use exportMap but that seems to be working for me:  http://gis.idaho.gov/ArcGIS/rest/services/IdahoParcels/MapServer/export?dpi=96&transparent=true&form...

Can you post a link to an export URL that shows the black box and red x?

Sure ... Here it is:

http://gis.idaho.gov/ArcGIS/rest/services/IdahoParcels/MapServer/export?bbox=-13111521.4096355,52274...

I see a little black box in the upper left corner.  Do you?

You arcgis server's URL should be configed to external URL not your internal server name (adm-magellan) , otherwise it only works inside your network even server name is correct. Do that in ArcCatalog.

Thanks - I passed your suggestion to our IT staff.

However I still have a question: (See initial post) - Why did the service work fine until the moment that I reset the link to the mxd file?  I have since similarly destroyed another service by re-linking to the mxd (in the parameters tab of the Service Manager) without any alteration having been made to the mxd.  It appears that simply re-linking causes the problem.

The problem has been resolved.

It seems that, in Server Manager, the URL for the output directory was set to a local address rather than the URL that it should have had.

Case closed.

Thanks for following up. It's nice to close the loop on issues like this as it potentially helps other people in the future.
