According to ArcGIS Administrator, my 365 day educational trial version of ArcMap 10 has Spatial Analyst installed, yet it says the license is not currently enabled or available.  Does anyone know if I am able to acquire Spatial Analyst with an educational trial version?

Alger,

Yes your 365-day Education trial version includes Spatial Analyst. Assuming your authorization number was activated, when you completed the Authorization wizard at the end of the install your extensions should have been authorized and available to you.

Have a read of the Trial and Help resources page http://www.esri.com/apps/products/arcgis/eval10/evalhelp/index.cfm, particularly the Installation tab--item #6, did your installation and authorization go as described?

Post back with a screen capture of your ArcGIS Administrator pannels (ArcGIS, Desktop, Availability), we'll see if we can help.

Hi Stuart,

Thanks for your quick reply.  My installation went fine, and as you can see from the attached pdf with screen capture images, I appear to have all the extensions.  The third image shows the message that appears when I try to access Spatial Analyst tools.  Help!

Hi Alger,

Did you enable your extension via Customize > Extensions?

Renny,

Glad you got it working for you; for new users the need to enable each extension as it is needed is not obvious and Alex's hint is the solution.  Be aware that the selection is stateful and gets recorded into each .MXD map configuration file.  Normal practice is to keep most extensions disabled enabling only those that are needed for the given work being done in the GIS session--hence it is the default following installation.

Unfortunately your ArcGIS Desktop installation is not yet complete.  You now need to download and apply SP2 for the Data Interoperability extension and then SP3 for Desktop for reliable use.  And if you'll be working in ArcGIS on occasion without an internet connection--the new File menu Performance Patch will improve responsiveness.

Stuart,

Thank you for your help.  I will definitely install those service packs to get the program up to date and running as smooth as possible.

Cheers,

Hi Stuart and/or Alex,

I have another question.  To install SP1, SP2 and SP3 I see I need to enable the data interoperability extension, yet when I go to customize-extensions there is no option for Data Interoperability.  According to ArcGIS Administrator I have access to this extension yet it does not show up when I try to enable it.  Any suggestions?

Hm, may I ask you a silly question - did you install Data Interoperability extension? Just thinking if you could miss it when installing the ArcGIS.

I am not sure how it works for the evaluation media - Stuart might help you here, but for "normal" system installation, at the ArcGIS 10 release, the ArcGIS Data Interoperability extension is a separate setup. This is available at your disposal on the ArcGIS Desktop media. I guess users who are licensed must still install the extension from its own setup.

Hi Alex,

Yes, I did install it.  I have attached a screen capture that shows my installed extensions.  Not sure why it doesn't show up when I try to enable it through the "customize" screen...
