In ArcGIS 9.3 the environment variable ARCGISHOME has been set.

In ArcGIS 9.4 Beta the variables DESKTOPJAVA94 and SERVERJAVA94 have been set.

in ArcGIS 10 Pre-Release the variables AGSDESKTOPJAVA and AGSSERVERJAVA are now available.
The ArcGIS 10 SDK help still describes DESKTOPJAVA94 and SERVERJAVA94: http://help.arcgis.com/en/sdk/10.0/java_ao_adf/conceptualHelp/engine/index.html#//0001000003n1000000.

In the past i've used the ARCGISHOME enviroment variable to determine the installation location for ArcGIS. So now in light of these changes is there a better way to dig out the ArcGIS root path....?

One problem is that there is no variable which points to ..\ArcGIS\DeveloperKit10.0

We opened a support case with ESRI and they recommended AGSDESKTOPJAVA as the replacement for ARCGISHOME in ArcGIS 10.
