Hi there, I am trying to use the combine tool on two raster grids but I keep encountering this error when I run the tool:

Start Time: Thu Sep 08 15:44:30 2011
An error was encountered while executing Combine.
("esriGeoAnalyst.GridEngine") Unable to open VAT file of C:\DOCUME~1\JONTY\LOCALS~1\TEMP\RASTER4
Error in executing grid expression
Failed to execute (Combine).
End Time: Thu Sep 08 15:44:30 2011

I have tried building a new VAT using python download from: http://arcscripts.esri.com/details.asp?dbid=13593

But this doesn' seem to work either. Finally in the error it states it is unable to open VAT file from: C:\DOCUME~1\JONTY\LOCALS~1\TEMP\RASTER4 I have checked and double checked and this file does not exist in my temp folder...

I really appreciate some help on this one as it has me completely stumped.

Thanks,

Did you find a solution for this?  I will be combining rasters soon and fear the worst.   In 9.3.1 , it seems to work fine, but I have to rejoin the descriptive attributes.    I just tested in 10 SP2 set up on a remote server.  Slow, but it seemed to complete without error.  I still need to rejoin the attributes.  I have encountered problems with disk space, as well as environment settings for the tool and network/system errors which sometimes give misleading error messages.

Unfortunately no solution as of yet. Still the same problem occurring even after adjusting the environmental settings.

Grids should never be housed in a folder with spaces.  Check that as the root problem first.

Hi Dan, While I did check for spaces there were none. The problem ended up being a memory indexing issue and is sorted now. Thanks for the help.

Hello, Can you please explain how you sorted this issues as I am having same problem and is uanable to create any combined rasters. I am trying to add 7 rasters which were further sliced from the original one. Shall appreciate your reply.

Thanks
