I'd like to know when an Insights for Enterprise 10.6.1. will be available.
Insights for ArcGIS v3.0 will support ArcGIS Enterprise 10.6.1. It is scheduled for release in Sept timeframe.
Hope this helps,
Any way I can get in Beta testing?
There is no beta planned as far as I know.
Is september still realistic? Is there anything we could do to get Insights 2.3 to work against 10.6.1 ? Like a manual edit of something or a dependency update... ?
> Is september still realistic?
As far as I'm aware, Insights for ArcGIS v3.0 is planned for release near the end of September.
> Is there anything we could do to get Insights 2.3 to work against 10.6.1 ?
There are no workarounds to configure Insights for ArcGIS v2.3 to work with ArcGIS Enterprise 10.6.1. Sorry.
So from My Esri when I click on the reference link for Workforce it sends me over to a page that right at the top says this is which version of Workforce will work with which version of ArcGIS Enterprise. Insights just sends you to a page that says that you need Portal for ArcGIS and ArcGIS Server. You have to go hunting through the rest of the Insights help documentation to find a compatibility matrix, and unfortunately it is out of date.
Without stumbling upon this forum post I would have had no idea that Insights 2.3 is not compatible with 10.6.1. This is the only warning people get in the Portal for ArcGIS help documentation upgrade guide:
"Ensure any Esri apps you have configured with your portal, such as Workforce for ArcGIS and Insights for ArcGIS, are at a version that's compatible with the 10.6.1 portal before upgrading. You can upgrade any apps as needed after upgrading the portal."
If I decide to go ahead and upgrade ArcGIS Enterprise from 10.6 to 10.6.1 right now, do I need to uninstall Insights for ArcGIS 2.3 first?
I upgraded a test environment from 10.6 to 10.6.1 that already had Insights 2.3 and it still works. I created a brand new 10.6.1 environment today and was surprised to find out that 2.3 can't install on it, yet it worked when I upgraded to 10.6.1 and it was already there. So to answer your question, you can go ahead and try to upgrade a test environment without touching Insights to see if it works for you like it did for me, but you'll have to wait until the end of September for the new release if you're having any problems.
Also, you're totally right, all the related documentation I can find doesn't talk about this:
Compatibility with ArcGIS Enterprise—Insights reference | ArcGIS (No column for 10.6.1)
Get started—Insights Get Started | ArcGIS ("you must have a base ArcGIS Enterprise deployment of version 10.5 or later", which is wrong)
I actually have a support case open over a minor display issue I am having with Insights, but the support analyst hasn't told me that Insights 2.3 is incompatible with 10.6.1! Not even Esri support knows, apparently! I'll have to tell him this and close the case...
Anyways, glad I found this forum post! Clearly there was no other way of knowing this. I guess I'll have to wait to give our end users 10.6.1, since they're expecting Insights!
If not a beta version, perhaps a pre-release? Thanks
Sorry, just in a tough spot when we have people waiting to use InSights again.
I just upgraded to 10.6.1 but now I am stuck with a "mostly working" install but no Insights. I could not get it to work correctly with the upgrade and no supporting install/upgrade for Insights. ESRI, you really should have documented this better and placed a disclaimer here.
Just wanted to follow up and let people know that I installed Insights 3.0 on our Enterprise 10.6.1 and all works great. ESRI even fixed that issue we were having with accessing Feature Service data that was referenced to our SDE data. We initially were unable to see the spatial features but all now works fine. Since we are not using Public Sharing we are not concerned with waiting for 10.6.1 patch. Thanks ESRI for getting the 3.0 version out.
So Insights for ArcGIS 3.0 is now available for download at My Esri, but I would hold off on upgrading right now. There is a warning to not install until you apply a ArcGIS Enterprise 10.6.1 patch but the patch is not available yet.
This is just silly. First there is no warning to not upgrade ArcGIS Enterprise 10.6.1 if you are using Insights for ArcGIS. Then they release the version of Insights that is supposed to be compatible. Then they warn not to upgrade Insights for ArcGIS or ArcGIS Enterprise because ArcGIS Enterprise has to be patched first, but the patch is not available at this time.
Also, the warning Esri provides is unclear to me: "If using Insights for ArcGIS 3.0 in ArcGIS Enterprise 10.6.1, an additional ArcGIS Enterprise 10.6.1 patch (Coming soon!) is needed to enable Public Sharing. Without this patch, public sharing will be disabled. Please contact the ArcGIS Enterprise Administrator to ensure all necessary patches are available and installed prior to upgrading ArcGIS Enterprise from 10.6 to 10.6.1."
Does that mean all public sharing would be disabled for my entire ArcGIS Enterprise site or just for Insights for ArcGIS items? There is a big difference between the two interpretations.
3.0 is now available!
InSights is working fine with 3.0 on 10.6.1. It just needs a file:
Microsoft JDBC Driver 6.4 for SQL Server from
Extract and drop this file: mssql-jdbc-6.4.0.jre8.jar into:
People had been asking ESRI to release the product, even in beta, so ESRI
released it. 3.0 is working great on my Enterprise 10.6.1. I can get some
work done and within a couple of weeks will be able to make them public.
We had heard your messages about the issues you encountered for upgrading and were trying to mitigate any further issues with the statement you mentioned. Sorry it was unclear. Let me clarify, public sharing will be disabled for Insights items only. You can still share with your organization and your groups. You will not be able to enable or disable public sharing on an Insights item type when using Enterprise 10.6.1. Unless this issue affects you, there is no need to refrain from upgrading to 10.6.1 and using Insights 3.0. Unfortunately, we do not have a timeline on when the patch will be available but it is in progress and are we working toward getting that out as soon as we can.
Thank you for clarifying the public sharing issue.
What caused this issue to not be caught in internal testing? Was the thought that since level 1s are infinite that anyone can be in the organization and that this could be patched at a later time? I'm trying to wrap my head around why the portal team and insights team let this bug through.
ArcGIS Enterprise is a huge product and InSights slipped through. I have to
commend ESRI for getting InSights 3.0 out a head of schedule though. 3.0
works better and has more features than the 2.x product.
@Steve, I'm looking for an answer from ESRI. I'm interested in why this was not caught in DevOPS. Most of us waited over 6 months for the first version. I want to ability to show non-org people (any WAN client / Public) insights content.
The Insights team hears your concerns and frustrations. We strive to make the software installation, configuration, and upgrade processes as seamless as possible. When improvements can be made, we take that information, and apply it to future product releases.
In the case of Insights 3.0 and Enterprise 10.6.1, an email was sent to all Insights customers indicating that organizations should not upgrade to Enterprise 10.6.1 until Insights 3.0 was released. In some cases, it sounds like that email was not enough communication. Thanks for the suggestion about communicating this within My Esri. Now that 3.0 is released, the documentation also describes this: Compatibility with ArcGIS Enterprise—Insights reference | ArcGIS
When releasing Insights 3.0, we did "catch" the Enterprise sharing issue, communicated a warning about this (within the install), and we are working hard to get this Enterprise patch out ASAP. This patch is currently being worked on, and we should make it available very soon. Thank you for your patience.
The patch that Scott and I were referring to is now available at Portal for ArcGIS 10.6.1 Insights for ArcGIS Public Sharing Patch.
