Apologies if already asked elsewhere and this is a small annoyance really, but I find it quite frustrating that when I'm trying to add data in AGOL using "Search for Layers" that the list I have seems totally random and it's difficult to easily find the item I want. It is not sorted by name or date modified/created so I have to negotiate the whole list every time. Having some kind of sort/filter (not based on current extent) would be a big help.

Kieran,

I agree that the searching is random and it's easy to make a mistake when not paying attention! (I know I have). I don't know of a way of sorting these search results but would make a great ArcGIS Ideas‌ topic.

There are kind of a couple that I found somewhat related to this but not exactly what you're saying:

Sort ArcGIS.com searches by extent

https://community.esri.com/ideas/7796

Either way, look around in Ideas to see if this exact Idea exists, if not, start a new Idea!

Also, it would be best to move this thread to https://community.esri.com/community/gis/web-gis/arcgisonline?sr=search&searchId=63282e56-b992-4c98-...‌. The GeoNet Help is for help with the GeoNet.

Thanks Adrian, I tried moving it to the Ideas section but couldn't quite work it out. Maybe it's ok now here in AGOL

Right, you will have to create a new Idea in order to put it there. Otherwise it will just stay in the "discussion" stage on GeoNet (which is fine to have it here as well). I would suggest creating a new Idea and linking that idea to your post here (and maybe asking others to vote-it-up). I would vote it up!
