Hi,

I'm making a demo Map Series (tabbed) to show a customer how we could present their data for them.

One of the tabs shows a web map.  If I add a layer to the web map that is a web map service from our corporate ArcGIS Server, then it appears in the web map, but doesn't display in the story map.

Is it possible to use ArcGIS Server Web map services as layers in this way, or does any data displayed on the web map have to be sourced from a feature layer hosted in ArcGIS Online?

Cheers,

Sarah

Hi Sarah,

You should be able to use a service from a GIS server in the same way as you'd use a service coming from ArcGIS Online.

My suspicion is that you are running into a web security situation known as having mixed content. Essentially, your story map can't access HTTP content if you are accessing your story map app over HTTPS.

Can you try adding the service to your web map using an https URL? If that doesn't work, are you able to share a link to your story here (or just with me in a private GeoNet message) so I can take a look?

Hi Owen,

This is the story map: https://arcg.is/2fMDeZ3

This is what the web map for the "Multi-point sites" tab looks like in ArcGIS Online when I create it:

It consists of one layer from my servers (schools) - the URL I used is: https://map.cornwall.gov.uk/arcgis/rest/services/transportation/MapServer/17 as well as three layers that are hosted as feature layers in AGOL. But the schools don't display in the story map.  Also, when I share the web map: https://arcg.is/2gExfpx, the schools disappear.

Any ideas?

Cheers,

Sarah.
