Table of Contents trouble/question

I am running Windows 10, and ArcGIS Desktop 10.4.  I have several layers (feature classes) that are grouped together.  The  and  boxes by the layers only work sporadically when clicking them.  Sometimes clicking SEVERAL times will get the layer to show, but usually I have to restart the program.  Is anyone else having this issue?

Recommend first step:

1) See if you can reproduce in a new map document, to make sure this is not map document specific

2) Resetting your ArcGIS application profile​ -- especially if another user tries it on the same computer with no problems.
