Adding multiple images from scratch

It seems to me that a big potential bottleneck in creating any image rich app in ArcGIS on-line or with various StoryMaps is the stage of uploading those images. As far as I can see you need to upload each image and then add the url to your spreadsheet that then forms the basis of your feature layer. Is there any way to automate this or reduce the time spent loading and adding? I should add that the images I wish to use cannot be uploaded to Flickr or similar. Thanks

No answer. This is still one of the biggest hurdles to creating Storymaps.

Also, Picasa is dead. As of March 16, 2016 - 2 years ago! Why is it that the only two choices for adding all your pictures at once are Flickr (which is great, but not super well know/used) and Picasa, which died 2 years ago? 

For all the love Esri is putting on Storymaps, you'd think they would make a better way for the lay user to create them.
