After failed sync geodatabase extract files are missing points

Recently we had a team go out into the field and collect about 5000 points worth of data using Collector on some iPads.  We had issues syncing some of the maps but after an Esri Support call we were told all of our data would be in the geodatabase files that were still saved on the iPads.  Now back in the office we extracted those geodatabase files and while we found about 400 of our 1000 missing point we are still short.  Is there still data someplace besides those geodatabase files or is our data just lost?
