Digitised polygon becomes coarse when merged or clipped

Hi!

I am using ArcGIS Editor 10.0 (service pack 3).

I find that when I digitise polygons and try to merge / clip them, the output polygon becomes coarse. Came across this problem before, and managed to "solve" the problem by copying the data into a new shapefile, repairing geometry, etc.

Example below. Top: Before merge, Bottom: After merge

Tried both file geodatabase and personal geodatabase - same result.

Would most appreciate advice for this.

Have you tried using the dissolve tool ? I'm assuming you want to keep the same boundary but lose the internal polygon lines ?
