I am trying to use the DEM Reconditioning tool in ArcMap 10.0. Every time I have tried to use it I get the error "Object reference not set to an instance of an object." I have used different data from all over, and I always get the same error message. At first the coordinate systems for the stream file and the DEM file weren't the same, and I thought that was the source of the error. Now I have data that has the same coordinate system but the error keeps coming. Does anyone know what causes this error?

Thank you

There was a bug in that tool, which has now been fixed. One of the internal processes was expecting OBJECTID in the input line feature class and failed when not found. This is resolved in the latest version for 10 and 10.1 available on our ftp site:

Can you run the tool from the toolbox and check whether you are getting a more detailed error in the geoprocessing result window?

It could be your agree stream layer does not have an Object ID. Put it in a geodatabase. This will give the features an object ID.

This thread is a but old now but i am running into this same issue with ArcMap 10.8.1. I have tried re-downloading hydrotools from https://downloads.esri.com/archydro/archydro/Setup/10.8/10.8.0.33/

and my DEM comes from SRTM (.hgt) files. The Solution proposed by christine seems to take me back to an older version of Hydrotools and I also tried Mark's solution and ensured my streams layer (downloaded from WWF hydrosheds) has unique study id's.

Any help would be greatly appreciated
