Hi Crystal For this to work you have to have chosen the 'As is' option when you first created your Shortlist from your web map. That option establishes the live link between your web map and the Shortlist app. To use that option your places need to be defined in a single layer using a set of fields that the Shortlist looks for. You can get that template from this FAQ or  from the wizard that appears when you make a Shortlist from a web map containing point data. The option in the green box below is the one to use. If you created your Shortlist using either of the other options in that wizard, then there's no live link between your original web map and your Shortlist, and the only way to update the places in your Shortlist is interactively inside the Shortlist Builder.  Rupert Note: the 'As is' option in the current Shortlist beta isn't working correctly if you try and use an ArcGIS Enterprise feature service (i.e. a service served up on your own enterprise server. Hi Crystal Our March 1st update of Shortlist added a new authoring workflow called 'As is'. In this workflow, you can create a web map containing a layer that contains a set of fields that the Shortlist looks for (see this FAQ to get the template). When you create a Shortlist from this web map (i.e. open the web map in ArcGIS Online and choose Share > Create Web App) and you choose the 'As is' option, Shortlist will live link to your web map and reflect updates you make to the layer in that map. You can make edits to the layer or completely replace. In this mode, the Shortlist Builder won't let you interactively add, delete or edit places: instead changes have to be made via the web map. So this mode should be good for all you GIS pros who like to manage and update data in batch and serve it up.  This new authoring workflow can't be applied retroactively to your existing Shortlists. To take advantage of the 'As is' mode you have to create a new Shortlist and choose that authoring option. So if you create a Shortlist and use the Import workflow option to import your points into the Shortlist Builder, there is no live link back to your original web map. There's a bug in the current Shortlist beta that the 'As is' option doesn't work with ArcGIS Enterprise feature services. It works OK if you create a feature service using ArcGIS Online, but it has a hard time with feature services you serve up using ArcGIS Enterprise server instances/REST. With those services, it looks like it has works initially but the Shortlist doesn't display correctly. Sorry about this issue. Rupert PS. If you created your Shortlist using the Import option, your points are stored in a layer in a new web map that Shortlist manages for you. The web map is called "XXX - Shortlist Builder" and the layer it contains is called "Shortlist layer (DO NOT REMOVE)". It can be tempting to try and edit the points in that layer directly in that web app to try and update your Shortlist. Don't try and do that. It can cause your Shortlist to get confused and you can lose your points  (we should add DO NOT EDIT to that layer name). It's OK to edit that web map to add a supporting layer like a study area but if you must edit that map, be sure to close the Shortlist Builder if it is open in another tab in your web browser before you make edit that web map. ... Hi Casey Sorry about the issue. On Tuesday night we updated Shortlist with a couple of fixes in the area you mentioned above. These also handle the issue that Ying mentioned above. Ying discovered that if an ArcGIS Online Organization had a HTTP based geocoder as one of its Geocoding Utility Services Settings, then the Shortlist Builder's Set Location/Change Location button didn't do anything if the Builder was accessed over HTTPS. This should work OK now. There are currently two issues in the area of using the Set Location/Change Location button in the Shortlist Builder beta (at least that we know about): 1) If you create a Shortlist from a web map containing point features and you use the option to import those points into your Shortlist as places, then when the Builder launches if you try and use Set Location/Change Location to add or edit a place's location, typing in an address usually doesn't work. It will let you use the mouse to click to add a location or drag a place to a new location interactively, but won't let you enter an address or place name successfully. If that happens to you click the Cancel button to quit the location adding/editing mode for your current place. This only affects the Import workflow and only affects the first time the Builder opens after you create a new Shortlist that way. If you encounter this issue the workaround is therefore to click Save in the Builder to save your Shortlist, and then reload the Builder in your web browser. It doesn't impact existing Shortlists. 2) This is unusual but if the Set Location/Change Location do nothing when you click them in the Builder then there may be an invalid geocoder in your Organization's Geocoding Utility Services Settings.  Sorry about those issues and we hope to address them when we leave beta probably mid-year. Hi, Sorry about the issue.  The first thing to try is to sign-in to My Stories on the Story Maps website: and then click on the entry for this story to expand it (or click the Check Stories button to check all your stories at once). That will check this story for issues and it will give messages if it finds issues such as if an ArcGIS Online web map that is displayed in the story has been deleted or unshared or is not loading for some reason, or if an image used in the story can't be found. Note that My Stories doesn't check for whether ArcGIS Online web scenes referenced from a story map are missing, unshared or broken, so if the Map Journal contains any 3D content, be sure to check each scene to see if can be accessed.
