That indeed seemed to be the issue. I have removed the offending .swf files. However, now I get the "spinning clock" when my project loads in debug mode. Everything seems to be functioning, but the spinning cursor is omni-present. Brad

I'm pretty sure you've hit it dead on the head, Robert! I'm going to have to wait til Monday to check, but I think that may be the case. I will post back Monday to confirm. Brad

I only have one project, so just the main one. The changes are being made in the code, not the .xml file. I'm quite perplexed but continuing to dissect exactly where in the code it seems to be having issues. It just makes debugging really hard when you can't be sure if you are seeing your results, or some cached stuff from a previous run.

I have a weird thing occurring with Flash Builder 4 while working on customizing and testing: If I clean the project then run it ("Project->Clean...", then the green "Run Index" button) the project runs in debug mode, but ignores a couple specific changes I've made; most notable is the selected index on the PrintPDF widget. In this case "Landscape" is selected, even though "Portrait" should be (index 0 vs index 1). If I change any line of code and run the project WITHOUT the clean, it runs the code as currently entered - meaning the index for the combo is Portrait, as it should be per the code. If I export a release build it acts the same as the "cleaned" build. There are other oddities when the PDF is actually produced using each of these methods, but I'm not sure adding that would be helpful right now. What is the difference in the two methods of running this in debug mode? The "Clean first" seems to be seeing something old that is cached? I'm pretty confused and welcome anyone's thoughts on this. I know that this MAY be a Flash Builder forum question, but maybe someone here has seen it before. Thanks! Brad

...and I solved it myself. It helps to add the widget to the list of items being built in the project.

Additional info - In the Widgets folder, I "see" the PrintWidgetPdf.swf, and the IdentifyWidget.swf when using the package explorer in Flash Builder 4. I do not see any of the other .swf files in that directory. Why is this, and could it have something to do with the issue? Brad

I'm making some changes in a Print widget - right now just font size and / or text contents. The file is the PrintWidgetPdf that Frank Roberts contributed. When I make my changes and build / run the viewer, the changes aren't happening in the PDF file. If I make the old PrintWidget the tool that prints, and make similar changes, those changes are visible in the printed output. My question is - where is the disconnect happening? Is something not making it to the swf file, and thus the changes aren't being incorporated? Any help on this one would be appreciated... Brad

The continuing printing saga: I've installed a sample print utility from this thread: http://forums.esri.com/Thread.asp?c=158&f=2421&t=299883&mc=11#936860 The solution calls for 2 parts - installing a .Net piece on the server in IIS and then adding the Flex components to the Flex project. Everything seems fine on the Flex side, but when I run the create PDF code from the Flex app there is an error in the .Net piece. When run on a remote machine the attached Error1 page appears. When I check the app URL on the server side, I get a little more detail, but still errors out, as shown in the Error2 attachment. I sent the author an e-mail directly, but thought I'd post here as well to see if anyone knew right off if there was a fix. I've already checked .Net versions and 3.5 is the installed / required version. I've also created a separate app pool in IIS in case that was an issue (from reading online ASP .Net forums / blogs). Anyone have any ideas? Brad

Hey Tony - I have a need to do something similar, it sounds like. I'm working to customize FlexViewer to view maps, but the print capabilities are limited. Can you expound on your solution, perhaps even some code samples? Thanks! Brad

Ha - I won't take it personal at all. I'm just trying to keep the client satisfied. They love the web mapping capabilities that allow others to view maps they normally had to print out. Some of their previous mapping efforts went into ArcIMS, but its being migrated to Server now for obvious reasons. The print issue is that once someone creates a map of an area (for this example we will use one with the MGRS available as a reference) they want to print that map out to take it into the field. I'm not SO worried about legend, but scale on the paper is important, since they will want to possibly use one of the map protractors to complete exercises in the field. The client is trying to get this to be the method for disseminating these maps, rather than have people constantly coming into the office of the GIS / Tech guy, who is usually swamped with other requests. There are many things they want to do, I'm just trying to see which are possible. Printing seems pretty basic, but has turned out to be one of the most challenging. Thanks, Robert! You're always helpful! Brad

Adding on to this: when I print, I want the printed page to be a specific scale so that a map protractor can be used when taking the printed page to the field. I know I can set the map scale in Flex, but how do I ensure the printed product matches the scale. Its easy in ArcMap, but seems less straight forward here in Flex. Thoughts?

When you say it "should be set", how (where in the Flex code) should it be set? How should it be handled if there are various projections for different map services in the map?

Hey Ken - Thanks for the info. I'm checking it out now. I like the MGRS reference you sent me! I may try to use that in what I'm doing. Issue is it has to be usable as a tool for actual map measurement on printed maps (guys will print something at 1:25k or 1:50K and use the map protractors in the field on it), so I will have to work on getting it to work in UTM projection, but its a great start! Thanks again... Brad

I'm playing with the Print widget some. I'm first trying to add a simple image file to the print layout. Here is the code I've added: private const ICON_URL:String = "com/esri/solutions/flexviewer/assets/images/icons/"; //Image var guardLogo:Image = new Image(); guardLogo.source = ICON_URL + "logo.png"; printBox.addChild(guardLogo); This doesn't quite do the trick to adding the element to the printout. What am I missing? Brad

I inadvertently found something that may be affecting the ID issue: projection. I'm working (in another forum thread) on getting my maps to be projected in UTM (for a grid layer that must be in that projection). I changed the way my map loads by taking out the StreetMap and Satellite maps and just having mine load, with the extents changed to UTM coordinates (to match my projected map service layer). Now, not only is the grid layer correct, but the ID tool works fine on all of my layers. Why wasn't it working when projected to overlay the StreetMap data in Lat/Lon, but now it works?
