Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 does not seem to be a supported OS for ArcSDE 9.3.1 to me. My reason for stating the above, is that in the System Requirements for 10.0, it is mentioned that for SP1 Support begins at ArcSDE 10 SP3 ArcGIS 10 System Requirements But sometimes these configurations work w/o any issues, hence you can apply SP1 on your OS and then test before confirming if this works for you or not. Can you explain what differences are you exactly looking for? As in, differences in terms of the setup, licensing, Structure of the sde geodatabase, functionalities, etc... Starting from 10.1, installation of ArcSDE is optional. You only need to install it if you want to use the SDE Command line tools or the SDE Application Server (SDE Service) connection. Are you trying to copy all the 41 feature classes together and observing the crash? Did you try copying a subset of the data and check if that works or not. Does it crash only while copying data to the sde gdb or to any geodatabase? ... View more

thats true and I can understand the scenario... this is the reason, it is never recommended to load data using a particular OS Authenticated user.....to avoid these scenarios..... You should always try using a separate db user as the data owner and then grant permissions to other users as required. ... View more

You have to use the data owner to delete those old data. So connect as that user to delete those data. In case you are unaware of the credentials, ask your DBA to alter the password for that user and then try to connect. ... View more

Rather than looking for a way to remove that lock or stopping and restarting the Map Services, I would suggest that you disable Schema Locking for that Service itself.....no locks will be generated therefore. You don't need ArcSDE installed for 1 and 2. You just needed an sde geodatabase. What you described in the last post is actually pointing to Point #2 (Creating new Versions in the sde geodatabase?)
