Hi Heather, everything is working now. But not with a Postgresql child replica-- I attempted to create a replica with a personal sde sqldatabase and everything worked; I was able to make geometric edits, synchronize, and propagate changes back to the parent via a geodata service. Therefore can we be safe in assuming the issue is on the child side with Postgresql? I'm okay with this temp fix, however I'd like to have a more robust rdbms hosting my child replica. I'd be happy to grant you access for you to create a connection and debug a postgres child replica on your end if you like (I'll pm you the connection details).

My Environment: ArcGIS server 10.03 ArcMap 10.03 I've published a Geodata service from the cloud for replication. I successfully created a two-way replica on my office computer ArcSDE/PostGres from the geodata service. When I edit existing features and try to synchronize, I get the error "synchronize replica failed "workspace is not connected"". Does this has something to do with the fact that my Parent Geodatabase on the server is in ArcSDE/SQLExpress and my Child gdb is in ArcSDE/Postgresql? Both are using the same service pack... I'm at my wit's end at this point.

For the domain, just use a period "." For instance, If my server name was "gis1", user name "administrator", password "P@ssword123", then you would enter the following... username: .\administrator Password: P@ssword123 In other words, don't bother with the domain name, just use a period instead.

(using build 2550) I'm in Mobile Project Center, trying to add map layers. I'm getting error 403 every time. Our map services are secured, but IIS is also configured to reroute all port 80 traffic to 443 (https). Is this the problem perhaps?

What are your display units set to under "options", "display" in ArcPad? Also, make sure that your under your GPS Preferences, that your antenna height is correct, your geoid separation is set to zero, and you have a check by "use map map units for height units & it says meters".

Writing another smaller sid from that sid might be a limitation due to the on-board Lizardtech license in ArcGIS perhaps? I would go with the JP2 workflow.

Hi, I have a Trimble GeoXM GPS Receiver and a Laptop PC, but I dont now how to conect the Receiver to laptop for use arcpad in the laptop not in the PDA trimble, can you help me please? Are you wanting to utilize wireless Bluetooth or a serial connection? Just use the GPS Connector Application on the Geo. (click on Start, settings, communications tab, GPS Connector). This app will allow you to either output NMEA to a BT com port or serial (COM 1).

Easy question for the Mobile Development Team: Does ArcGIS Mobile 10 work reliably with RTK GPS? Our project scope is fairly simple; we want elevations of infrastructure features (sanitary/storm manholes etc.); and while the field crew is there, get GIS information. In testing it we are getting the RTK signal but are getting strange geographic transformation results. Even with our data and the map in WGS_1984, we get strange results... Seems like this should just work... What do you mean by strange geographic transformation results? Is this a traditional single-base RTK setup? Is the base coordinate in the WGS_84 reference frame on the Horizontal/Vertical?

Dear MMG, GPS Controller is only meant for diagnostics. You can theoretically run it in tandem with NMEA Applications like ArcPad, but I would not recommend this. You will get frustrated and max out the program memory on the Juno very fast. To get the best performance out of ArcPad 7.1, you will need to purchase Trimble GPS Correct. It will allow you to create post-processable sessions in ArcPad, and allow you to take advantage of real-time corrections. However, if you do not plan to post process in ArcPad, and you will not be utilizing VRS, or real-time base station corrections, you can just run ArcPad by itself in NMEA and it will gain WAAS corrections. WAAS correction require line of site to the sout (also depends on where you are located geographically), however you will celebrate sub-meter accuracy with WAAS on the Geo2008 in real-time.

Conor, Have you seen the online Ashtec GPS Mission planner? It allows you to visualize the time of day with Google Earth. http://asp.ashtech.com/wmp/ If you go through the steps, and then select "Smart 3d" for visualization, you'll get some pretty cool results. The reason that I bring this up, is because you might attempt to get in touch with the programmers for this online app. They might let you access the kml service or tell you how they got it done.

I'm just wondering since I don't have much experience with these devices. When I first got the NOMAD and before I installed GPScorrect, the GPS on the unit was not working. I was trying to figure it out and bumped into the GPS settings under windows mobile, where the default settings for hardware port was COM2, and program port was COM3. The "allows Windows to automatically assign port" options was unchecked. I went ahead and checked it, opened up ArcPad and in its GPS Preference menu, set the port to COM3, and voila! GPS worked. That's why when I was troubleshooting error code 5 and saw everyone use COM3 as their GPS port for ArcPad I thought I used the correct setting. Thanks for your response Alex. Yukun, I stand corrected. You are correct. In the instance you describe above, the Nomad is emulating the NMEA sentences from COM2 to COM3 in Windows Mobile. I completely forgot about this WM GPS Emulation feature.

con20or, This seems like a really cool project. Are you using the GPS almanac for your analysis? In that case you are dealing with ECEF coordinates, which are unavailable in the ArcGIS environment. You might need to translate them in terms of the coordinate system of your observer point on the ground. Tell me, are you performing some advanced GPS mission planning? I created LOS between known control points and observed GPS point under canopy in a recent blog post.

It's unfortunate that the GPS tracklog in ArcPad only allows for recording by time. A distance filter would make it easier for your purposes. Is the GPS antenna going to have a view of of the sky (at least partial?), or is it going to be inside a backpack 😞 ? For a four hour trip, to get the best data, I would set up a feature class ahead of time for this purpose and turn off the tracklog. My reasoning is because you can log by distance when collecting a polyline feature in ArcPad using the "distance interval" under your GPS Preferences. I would set this to 5-10 meters. That way if the bus is stopped (which I'm sure it will occasionally), you won't be logging data and end up with a vertex editing nightmare on the backend in ArcMap. Also, will you have GPSCorrect loaded on the unit or will you just be using the NMEA sentences for GPS?
