ArcGIS Server connection: http://imaps.dfg.ca.gov/arcgis/services has NAIP 2005 and California CIR 2005 imagery (not sure if you meant inclusive of 2005 or not).

Hi, For some reason the basic locator in ArcMap named "World Geocode Service (ArcGIS Online)" does not work. So if you want to geocode with your Organizational Account do the following: - In the Catalog window choose GIS Servers and click on Add ArcGIS Server - Choose Use GIS Services. For Server URL type http://geocode.arcgis.com/arcgis/services and use your ArcGIS Online credentials. - On the Geocoding toolbar click on <Manage Address Locators...> >> Add... >> Find the locator (World) in the service you added earlier. Use this geocoding service to geocode locations. It consumes 40 credits / 1000 geocodes. Akos Thanks, Akos! That worked. Cheers, Bond

Hi! I am trying to geocode a table of addresses in ArcGIS desktop using the Esri World Geocode Service. I am signed in to our corporate ArcGIS Online account in the mxd (I can see our private maps and data). However, every time I or a co-worker tries to geocode, we get an error saying we need an ArcGIS Online subscription. I can geocode fine in ArcGIS Online via an internet browser, but I want to do it in desktop. What is going on? Thanks!

My *very limited* understand of SDE is that it is just the data server between ArcGIS desktop and a relational database that lets the software "talk" to the relational database. ArcGIS for Server is the software that is installed on your physical server (or an Amazon server if you go that route) that lets you manage web services, mobile apps, enterprise geodatabases, and server-side processing. Depending on how your organization is set up, you may need to get whoever manages your server to help you out with publishing rights. For AGOL, if you want to link up to features or services that will reside on your server (AGOL users see and edit the data, but the data is actually stored on the server) you will need to get the rest services link out of your ArcGIS Server Service Directory and stick it here: If you want your feature stored on AGOL (not on your server) you can batch run "Package Layer" and "Share Package" from Data Management Tools.tbx to quickly get a bunch of layers out there.

I started noticing problems after you mentioned this. I had to update my Twitter app on my phone. Appears to be working with the update again. However, I have to make sure GPS is turned on, and then there are 2 different places to enable location in the app (I have Android). Really annoying to get the public to use because I feel like most people will have trouble getting the geolocation to work (and who knows how often it will break if they don't update their app?). Seems like a Twitter issue more than an AGOL one (but that is just my tiny experience). I wonder if anyone else has actually used this Web Mapping App in "the real world"?

Do you have a server with ArcGIS for Server that is web enabled? If so, just set up an ArcGIS Server geoprocessing service and add that by going to add item in AGOL and supplying the link to your service. It should recognize that it is a tool from the hyperlink. If you don't have a server, you can create a geoprocessing package. I'm not sure if it will run by itself in AGOL or if it will try to open in desktop (never tried it). Best of luck!

Are you using the social media web app template? I've had it work for me. Just tested it again and it seems fine. Make sure you enable location on your twitter account. The default is usually not to use location (which is why only a fraction of tweets are geotagged).

Publish as a map service and then add that to your web map/web app in AGOL. The map service will preserve whatever symbology you've set in ArcGIS Desktop. Good luck!

Hi all, I am trying to create a multipatch of a box culvert for export into CityEngine. I have a line with the correct elevations, but need to extrude in both the x and y directions to get a box. When I buffer the 3d line using the standard buffer, I lose the elevations. When I use the 3d buffer I get a cylinder. I thought I could display as a strip using 3d line symbols and then extrude, but that just creates a flat "wall". The only 3d line symbology is a tube. Any ideas how to achieve this in ArcGIS alone without using FME to extrude then rotating 90 degrees and using FME to extrude again? Thanks!

Hi Chris, There are some existing maps out there that sound similar. The USGS has some animations (not very good visually): http://cegis.usgs.gov/sea_level_rise.html. There are also hyperlinks to presentations and reports that may help you at the USGS link (some info is a bit dated now). These guys have an interactive map and if you click on Galleries, Flooding Maps they have several nice maps: http://www.globalwarmingart.com/wiki/Special:SeaLevel. They also have usage information (licensing/copyright) through links in "contact us" so you can sort through that if you just prefer to use their graphics in your book. Otherwise all you would need is a global elevation data set and then just create a 20m, 40m, etc contour lines since the existing coastline will be at 0m. NASA has global elevation data for free that you would need to download, piece together and process (time consuming), but it would pay to research if someone already has global coastal contours (I'm guessing they do). Hope the links help a bit! Good luck on the project! Best Wishes, Bond

Have you tried using the interpolate line and profile graph tool on the 3D Analyst toolbar? If you right click on the graph and go to advanced properties you can get the data table and copy to the clipboard to paste into RAS or Excel (or you can export from the graph to a wide variety of formats).
