Thanks Gregory! That was the solution I needed. Just was missing that little bit.

Hi all, I have a Story Map template set up on our server. I am referencing a public web map on ArcGIS Online for the base map, but I can't include my tour layer points on the web map because they contain sensitive information (the resulting story map is only going to be on our internal corporate network). Can I just use my local CSV file on the server for the point data? It is all set up with coordinates and image links. If so, how do I do that? Thanks for any guidance! 🙂

Do you have a TIN, DEM, or Terrain for the area? Your best bet would be to create contours using either Contour or Surface Contour from one of these datasets. Depending on where you need the data for, there are a lot of sources (global USGS, government, or even purchase from private vendors). It is possible to create a TIN from your contours and then re-generate 1m contours, but they would not accurately represent the true ground surface so I would not recommend it.

If you happen to have Adobe Acrobat Pro, what I do at work is export my PDF with all of my layers turned from ArcMap and then open it up in Adobe Acrobat Pro. Go to the Layers view on the left, and right click on a layer you want to be turned off by default and choose Properties. In properties you can set the Default State from "on" to "off". Then just save your document and it is ready to go. If you don't have Pro, maybe Nidhin's link will help you sort it out in ArcMap.

For an existing legend, under Legend Properties, Items you can select your breakpoint (your 7th layer) and click 'Place Item in new column". The rest of the layers will be in the 2nd column. Also, when you are first setting up your legend there is an option at the bottom to set the number of columns.

Do you have access to the original Lidar? Your best bet would be to get the ground points from the Lidar and build either a TIN or Terrain using the Lidar ground points and the breaklines. You can generate contours from your DEM using the Contour tool. If you want to incorporate breaklines, you will first have to convert to TIN. Then after adding breaklines, use Surface Contour. But you've lost a lot of accuracy from the original Lidar by starting from a 1m DEM, so unless the county won't share the Lidar I'd use that.

Have you tried Hawth's tools? It is a free toolset with lots of helpful tools for environmental analysis. There is more than one way to do your task, but Hawth's Tools might be useful for you in other areas: http://www.spatialecology.com/htools/tooldesc.php and this tool should do what you want: http://www.spatialecology.com/htools/regpnts.php

When using the Create TIN from Features tool, define your clip area polygon as a "hard clip". If you've already generated a TIN, you can Add Features to TIN (also hard clip).

If your goal is to get your data in GoogleEarth, you can just Export to KML from the Conversion tools. It will take care of the coordinate conversion for you (we commonly export from a local coordinate system). The coordinate translation will cause some shifting of data based on the coordinate translation, but considering GoogleEarth is used for visualization instead of analysis, it probably won't be a problem.

I've had this problem too, as have many others: http://forums.arcgis.com/threads/63443-ArcScene-10.1-near-non-functional-with-TIN-(face-elevation)?highlight=tin+10.1+arcscene It seems that 10.1.2 should fix it (or 10.2 if you can upgrade). I can't confirm as I pretty much stopped using ArcScene because it was too slow and the 3D visualization capabilities aren't that great (CityEngine is way better).

I think you need either a raster, TIN, or terrain to run the volume tools. Use the conversion tools in the conversion toolbox to convert to a raster (ASCII to Raster). Then use the Surface Volume tool and give it the elevation you want a volume below or above. If you don't need the entire area, you'll want to clip your raster to only your area of interest.

Hi! I've had that issue with the crazy lines on profiles too. The fix that worked for me was to select the entire trail segment you want a profile for and then create a route (Route Editing toolbar). This ensures that your trail is properly linear referenced (added bonus that you can label distances in plan view to match your profile view). Not sure on the automation bit.

Hi! When I use the Export to CAD tool, if I export to a DWG my GIS layers show up as separate layers in the DWG. However, when I use the Export to CAD tool to a DGN using a seed file given to me by our CAD manager, everything shows up on the default level. How do I get the DGN to have each GIS layer on a separate level? Thanks!

Depends entirely on what you want as an output. If you just want a peak flow rough estimate, you can use the rational method. Then you only need your drainage area (watershed area calculated in GIS), the runoff coefficient, and rainfall intensity. If you want anything much more complex, you will need to use a hydrologic modeling software (HEC-HMS is a common free one). GIS can help you get much of the input needed for these models including basins, streams, curve numbers, and time of concentration, but the modeling software will require other inputs such as your storm hydrographs and any gauge locations for calibration.
