Hi I may have found a small bug that relates to arc's within a polygon. We have a layer that is created by buffering point features. The resulting polygon dataset consists of features made of a single arc segment to create a circle. When we share this dataset through Open Data, after downloading the dataset into a shapefile (using a local projection) or as a kml file the features end up downloading and displaying as an ellipse instead of a circle. You can try downloading the dataset yourself from our test open data site They seem to display in the map view in Open Data correctly, its only after downloading that there is an issue. I can get around the issue by generalising the features to turn each circle into lots of straight line segments, which do then download correctly. It only seems to be arcs that are not downloading correctly. I have also only tested polygons, I haven't tried line segments with arcs. You can download the generalised version here to compare to the data made up of arcs above. I've attached a screenshot. The black circles are the downloaded features after being generalised into straight line segments and the orange ellipses are the downloaded features when made up of an arc.

Any idea if/when this might become available? Currently, we are unable to record the number of hits on our open data site and don't really have any idea if its being used or not...

Yes! That would be incredibly useful! It would be much easier from my point of view if you could handle the code and I just have to put in the tracker ID. I think that would resolve all my problems with this. It would also be good for users with basic code skills (like myself...) who have to try follow the google developers guide... Yes I would say many users would find this useful if they want to use google analytics to track their stats.

Do you know if any other ESRI Open Data sites have been able to use Google analytics successfully? It just seems strange that it will not record legitimate hits, but will record the spam ones. I assume legitimate hits are being recorded successfully on ESRI's google analytics?

This article gives a quick explanation of referral spam as well as a list of some of the offending sites: http://viget.com/advance/removing-referral-spam-from-google-analytics. My colleague has been researching solutions for this as it has become an increasing issue in the past few weeks with the potential to skew our reporting. When we analysed where the traffic was coming from on our open data site the only hits recorded are what this article refers to as ‘ghost referral traffic’ meaning traffic that has spoofed Google Analytics servers, not actually visited our site. While we know there have been genuine visits to our site, none, not even web crawler spam, are showing in our GA results, meaning the tracking code isn’t functioning as it should.

Hi Daniel. I've tried to set up google analytics on our open data site, using the link you supplied above. It sort of worked in that its recording hits, but apparently these are all referral spam, and its not recording any legitimate hits. Are there any 'Open Data' specific guides to how to get google analytics working??? Basically I've posted the attached code into the Header HTML section and amended the code to account for it being the second tracker but not totally sure I've done it right. Thanks

I thought of two more improvements as well. - When using aliases on a field in a dataset being served through Open Data, in the Open Data site the fields will display using the alias field name, but when you download, it will revert to the actual field name and ignore the alias. I think the downloaded data should match what's displayed in Open Data. E.g. this layer uses an alias on the "Decision Date" field. The actual field name is AppIssDt, which is what is shown when the data is downloaded. - It would be useful to be able to download as file gdb. In particular do get long field names without truncating them, as a shapefile does.

With drawing areas, I've used both methods through different GIS download websites. Filtering by map view in Open Data and by drawing a rectangle extent in https://data.linz.govt.nz and personally, I find the rectangle extent a lot easier to use. Others may disagree... With updated date, the data we provide through Open Data is a copy of the main production data. Its mostly updated once a week using Delete and Append. So in our case, our updated data gets entirely replaced, so would get new OBJECTID's. Would a possibility to detect data updates be to use a combination of editor tracking and/or looking for new OBJECTID's?

I thought I'd start a discussion about the improvements people would like for Open Data. Two of my bigger issues were ticked off recently with the introduction of domain support and local projection for shapefile downloads, so thanks for that! Here are two other things I'd quite like to see happen 1. Instead of filtering by the map view, I think it would be easier for users to draw an extent on the map of an area they are interested in. Could be a simple as a rectangle extent. For a good example of this, see here 2. I would like the "Updated" date to change when the underlying data is changed, not when the ArcGIS Online settings for that layer are updated. For example, the data in this layer is updated weekly, yet the "Updated" date says 3 months ago. This can be very misleading for users. If anyone else has ideas for improvement, feel free to add them.

Thanks Courtney. I've got it working after I published an image service looking at a mosaic dataset instead of the raster directly. I see that the imagery doesn't download with any georeferencing information when downloaded as JPEG or PNG. Is this likely to be added later on?

This is the only help I can find in the online documentation Daniel Fenton Does ArcGIS Open Data support imagery and raster data? Yes. Imagery and raster data must be registered as Image Services to be added to Open Data. Open Data does not currently support raster layers within a Map Service. What this doesn't really tell me is how the image service needs to be configured.... I've found a few image services in the ArcGIS Open Data site but they all seem to be mosaic datasets. Is it possible to share raster data through an image service?

I am trying to add an image service to our Open Data site after the recent update to open data. I've added the image service to ArcGIS Online and shared it with the Open Data group. The image service appears in my Data Report in the open data admin but it won't show up in the Open Data site. I'm not sure why this isn't working. This is the Open Data site Marlborough District Council Open Data and this is the image service I'm trying to make accessible ImageService Any help would be appreciated.

Since you asked.... these would be my top three. 1. Instead of filtering by map view (or in addition to), I would like users to be able to draw on the map around an area of interest to filter/download by. 2. The ability to download shapefiles in projections other than WGS84 would be useful, as companies, organisations etc that would download our data would mostly be using a local projection rather than a global one. 3. Domain value descriptions do not currently come through to open data. It would be useful if it did as we have a few datasets using domains.
