Sorry I got lost in the Nodes when reading your question! Is there a value for the to_node you are trying to match? With the sample data you gave new_to_node = node_values[1] would fail or error because there is no lookup for it? Do you have a default grid code for the missing node values.... if you do you could do a node_values.get(to_node,mydefaultvalue) There is a lot of good stuff here when you have a key with no value.... What about using a dictionary to convert you node data to the grid number? # dictionary mapping {From_Node : GridCode]
conv = {2:8,3:9,7:5}
....
New_From_Node=conv[From_Node]
New_To_Node=conv[[To_Node]
.... You can even programically build your dictionary

My 2 cents, There is no Good way of doing this.... because you have to attack the data from both ends. I point you into a direction that I use in situations like this. What is the ultimate repository rule for you data. Those fields that don't match the rules are incorrect and must changed. The data rule for your feature class states that the "BM" is not required. Your excel sheet has it in it. Which data rule/format is correct? Once your rules have established, then you must correct the data to match those rules. (schema) I personally import the excel data sheet into MS Access and create manual pattern matching queries to update the bad data (data that did not meet the rules set above). SQL LIKE Operator is a good starting resource on Pattern matching I then do my joins from Access to the feature class - but you can export the data back into an excel spreadsheet if your more comfortable that way I do not know of any magical way of joining two fields that do not match in structure and format other than correcting the data.

Depending on your database different senarios will apply. For example for a wide area intranet application, I am using overlays on top of Bing Maps. The GIS data is acessed through, in my case, javascript to the ArcSDE connection on a SQL Server 12.0 database. In development, the application passed my username/credentials -- however on my first test on the production database that was not the case. IIS would not pass the username/creditials to the database but only passed the IURS_XXXX user (IIS local user). What I had to do in my application is to create a user account on the server, set the app on IIS to use that user, and within SQL Server set appropriate permissions for the created account. Another way around this issue would be setting up a worker pool on IIS for that created account and your app would be set to use that worker pool...... Along with our System Administrator --- it was a lot of trial error before we got a working balance! I imagine every set up would be different -- Now if you are using Kerberos as part of your security, you may have to yet go through another level of setting up stuff -- A lot of this is highly depended upon your individual network set up so any one answer may or may not apply to you. For my case I set up a domain and local account srv-mdxinfo. Hope this gives you some things to try out!

I deal a lot with third party excel data through work. My technique is to bypass Arc Maps excel functions/tools alltogether. One of the main reasons, I am an advocate for the personal database in Pro (MS Access) because it is a main tool for my Excel to GIS transfers. I use an access database to do my imports and translations. I find MS Access works better with excel than Arc GIS. Some of my excel gotchas include: 1. Null vs Blank values 2. Data types -> this can be hell! in Excel the first 8 rows of a table determine the data types for the columns. Excel does not honor your format settings! The only way around this I found was making templates that had example data in the first 8 rows that meet the expected format requirements. 3. Field Order 4. Special Characters

Yes! I had to.... My use for GIS is not really Mapping but working with Data and a lot of our data comes in as Access files and other MS office files. 32 bit reason is not acceptable when there is a 64 bit engine available from Microsoft! Heck I would even live with it being slow!

No I don't think so directly, however I see no reason why you could not include the Word API reference into a .net program. So if you want to do the heavy lifting, you could pass Word the necessary stuff you want. Say you wanted to open a word template .... and pass it the necessary data... eg... wdApp = new Microsoft.Office.Interop.Word.Application();

I do not believe that is an option. If MS Access (Personal Databases) were recognized then you would have a chance in doing it from there wrapped up in a MS Access Script and possible runing the script through ARC GIS Pro. But there are no current plans on implementing MS Access to GIS Pro. However you can vote this as an idea and possible they may consider it..... https://community.esri.com/ideas/12662
