Hakim, if you are asking whether an ArcGIS Desktop 10.2 can access a license from a10.0 license manager, the answer is no. however, a 10.0 Desktop is compatible with a 10.2 license manager, so if you have a mix of versions being used by users, you should upgrade to 10.2 or 10.3 (the proper license file from esri is required) and then all could access.

i Have had a similar situation for years, and with each new release of license manager, I'm hoping that the new LM will have additional options. I am on 10.3 now, and I still do not see a good "option" for a mix and limit when it comes to borrowed licenses. I have tried your logic before which always sounds like it has potential, but never was able to get it to work. I didn't put much effort into lately, however, since instead of a dozen or so user names as you show, I have about 350, and listing them all in groups is too much overhead, and in my situation, all have the same privileges, but I want to limit borrowed counts. My very clunky way to do it is to have a separate LM just for borrowing licenses. That means I have a few limited licenses assigned to another LM that the user has to switch to if they need to borrow. Not an ideal situation at all, but it assures that most license are kept in the office for the majority to use (we have about 53 core licenses for the 350 users). This is a very inefficient way to handle this, for many reasons, but is necessary right now. So, I'm hoping someone has a good answer for you that maybe will work for us too. ArcGIS Idea - Maximum number of licenses to borrow (CORRECTED link, per Xander's comments below. Note: must be logged in to "promote", but can view without login) The above link is to the ideas page for topic "Maximum number of licenses to borrow". There are other ideas in the ideas.esri.com page re: LM. just search for "Licenses Manager Borrow" or similar on that site, and promote any you think would help. Edited: fixed link and added comment about logging in when you want to promote an idea. -ras

Thanks Joanne. Mine actually is up-to-date (1.0 Prerelease update 2) and working, just was commenting that new downloads on MyEsri is not live for me either and possible reason. I've had it installed for a while, and the update was applied a couple weeks ago (no issue), so probably just the last week it stopped being a live link.

My guess is if the link is disabled (and it is on mine too) that means final is coming soon, and they don't want to have people download pre-release anymore. [although it would help if they added a note]

I haven't tested in 10.3 enough yet for comparison, but for 10.2.2 I would say "yes", users may notice a lag if it spools it up the first time, but after that, not an issue. I have most of mine set at 0. I don't think the lag is that noticeable, and for seldom used layers, better to not have them take resources when idle. Base maps get used often enough that for us, that never seems to be an issue (except after a restart). In the testing I've done so far with 10.3, I don't see many differences from 10.2.2.

Anthony, just in case "funniness" is multiple license managers (which is how I have some groups separated, and a set of licenses to borrow separated), you can set up separate .bat files. I have a command window shortcut (pinned to my windows task bar) that opens to the directory with the lm util and the bat files...then I run based on the group/LM I need to check, eg. Chk_av.bat chk_av2.bat or chk_ai.bat. of course you do not need to specify the .bat when running. if using groups within the options (.opt) files within the license manager (which I dont), does that display differently with the lmutil command? Just wondering if that was what you meant.

Thanks. I'm happy to hear that it's helpful to others. I can't take credit for all the solutions obviously, but as long as I was gathering info for our/my own use, might as well share. Nice that Geonet gives the platform for this.

If all runs smoothly, WAB 1.0 the startup.bat starts/opens an nodejs command window, and the browser window. However, to exit or quit, I haven't found any real directions to do a clean exit. (no close or exit button either). I have: closed the WAB browser tab, then the nodejs window, and closed the nodejs window, then the borwser tab these things are sometimes done hours apari, if I'm not really thinking about it. So far, it hasn't seemed to matter, and all is good. But has anyone seen or heard of the "correct" or preferred order? Just curious, since it seems a little clunky. Next version may have something. Thanks.

And as Robert Scheitlin pointed out, we are running it on the local machines (not servers). The question I was asking it whether to use one or different AppID's....that is, have one Add Item-an Application created with all possible user/dev machines and "shared", or have each user create an AppID. I'm going with the second option. And if interested, yesterday I wrote and posted what I tested and the conclusions I came up with....right or wrong, or best practices?? I'm hoping others will comment if they have a better solution. But doing the tests and writing it down makes my old mind understand it better. EDIT: I refer to ArcGIS Online....not portal (which I haven't setup yet, but should be similar)

I should have mentioned I was using 10.3. I no longer have a 10.1, but in 10.0 I used http://gisweb2.durhamnc.gov/arcgis/services http://gisweb2.durhamnc.gov/arcgis/services and it worked. Maybe a limitation in your network?

Depending on what version of ArcGIS you are using, try this instead that is, add add "rest" between the argis and services.

For what it's worth, I haven't received any true authoritative answer to my specific question, but Robert's comments made sense and could apply to what I needed to test. This prompted me to write my first blog Tips and Observations for getting Web AppBuilder - Developer Edition Installed if anyone is interested, but bottom line (clip from blog) regarding this topic A WAB folder (and startup.bat file) are pretty much linked to on AppID – although there are ways to shift or change which one. Each user should have their own application/AppID created by them, in their own My Content Multiple machines for one user can be registered to the same AppID, if desired. The WAB stores the applications being created in the local drive, so these are not necessarily shared between machines…although I think they could be setup to work that way. One machine could be registered to more than on AppID, if desired and if multiple WAB startup folders exist. And, if your install gets messed up because the appId wasn't available or it was messed up, there are fairly easy ways to fix the problem.
