Also, if caches are involved, I would suggest moving those to the new box too. Keeping the name and folder structure the same for the move will also help.

Hi Bill, --- sorry for the delayed response....I wrote most of below on my ipad on Friday, and either the iPador GeoNet "ate my homework" without recovery....ah, but this morning at least part of it was there.... --- I've been thinking I need to add notes on upgrading and other custom tweaks. I see there is a new version 1.5.1, so I will update my documentation to include tips for upgrading. Until then, a short answer as to what I've done. If I'm just replacing the LL widget, I first unzip the new version to a temp location. I then rename it to match the folder name of the one I have been using. I mention this only because the unzipped folder may or may not be the same. I then rename the one that was in the WAB folder(s), copy this one over and copy any customization I did outside of the widgets GUI. Remember, that besides copying the updated widget to your ../apps/#/.. you also need to update the \client\stemapp\widgets version. -Rebecca

Some suggestions can be found Tips and Observations for getting Web AppBuilder - Developer Edition Installed I have some hints about refreshing the WAB and creating and connecting to the app Id. As Robert suggested, sometimes it's easier to just start up a new WAB folder. But you should also be able to copy the site you setup, and not lose the work you did.

I wouldn't give up on your "switching" line of thought. I think you could do that by tricking it some with multiple services. Caching the scales you need with the tile scales, then making the mxd basically a blank screen and turning off on-demand. Then have a dynmic service, and have things shut off until you get to the scale you want to show. That might not be the exact solution, but with a few tweaks you can probably get that to work for you. It may confuse the ArcMap users a bit, but with decent instructions of which to use at certain scales, I'm sure it would be short term. Also, remember for ArcMap users (with 10.3 if caching with 10.3 bundles), they can access the cache files direct, bypassing the service, if needed. Of course, then the speed depends more on the network, etc.

Oops, sorry. I didn't catch that. I think you are correct on the image/raster only. Not knowing how complex you service is, but have you tested the speed of the service as dynamic and not cached? It might not be an option with the extent, and/or with complex symbology, but I know many of my vector services I used to cache, I now just have as dynamic. Speed has really improved in the past couple releases.

Not a cheap extension, but in my opinion, worth it because of personnel and computer crunching time. Do you have an EDN license with ArcGIS Server setup? You should be able to use that to prove it's usefulness. That's what I used to test.

Excellent. Thank you, it would have taken me a while to find (figure out) that they were in the "configs" folder....although, now it seems obvious. funny thing,... for some reason a file-text search or the \XX\ app folder never came up with that directory.....not sure why. hmm.

This question is specifically for the LocalLayerWidget and AccessifizrWidget but may also be generic WAB-Dev. Where do the pop-up customization items get written? I'm used the LocalLayer. in a previous version of the widget (1.3 maybe) and I did quite a bit of customization using that widget version. I made enough tweaks from the defaul WAB install, that I decided to start fresh and move things over, as appropriate. But I have not been able to find which folder/file these tweaks are written to within my App# folders. Can someone point me to the file....or is it multiple locations? I was hoping to save some time by modifying the code (vs. drilling down in all the windows again). thanks.

Big job! Just to throw this out there, in case you have access to the Image Server extension....I tested it with some new Alaska imagery, including adding a few cache scales (down to source scale), and what took about 8 weeks in the past took about 4 days. I tested on both 10.2.2 and 10.3. Scales larger than source took about 5 days by itself, but in the past would have probably taken a couple months....so, I'm sold on the speed. I'm still in test mode (hoping to get the extension), but you should see if you have access to it already. I'm assuming if you are doing nation wide, you're in a larger organization. (??)

And just to let you know, I can't take any credit for the development of the widget, that's all Adam and Robert, so far. So if you are planning on collaborating on widget additions (i.e. to share), I would work with them on the github site to see what's in the works.

Hi Peter, I'm not sure what particular item you are wanting the latest version link, so: For the WEB-Dev edition Web AppBuilder for ArcGIS (Developer Edition) | ArcGIS for Developers you will need to log in with you esri account. For the LocalLayer widget LocalLayer · GitHub for my PDF....the attachment marked 1.3 is the latest I've uploaded...haven't modified since since the widget releases have been coming fast, and I haven't seen any major changes to wha tI have there so far.....but I'll add things I figure out, as I have time. By the way, all of those links are also included above in the text...in case my copy paste didn't work.

Nik, if you had these previously cached in 10.0, if the data hasn't changed and the tile schema is the same, you may be able to use the same tiles. If you are using the newer bundled format, it may take a few steps to convert and then manually merge them to the new service, but typically that works just fine. Another option, is to figure out the locations that will be hit often and scales 13-19 and just pre-cache those areas.

I'm surprised no one has chimed in with an opinion or standard terminology yet. So, even though I don't know what is the true correct answer, I'll give it a bump with a comment, and maybe others will have a better solution. Most of the tech session and documentation refer to ArcGIS Online as an "ArcGIS portal" (lower case "p") which includes both the web base based ArcGIS Online, and the locally hosted Portal. Personally, I just say it's been "published to ArcGIS Online" which I say is part of the cloud. I always hesitate to use the buzzword "cloud", since that sometimes conjures up negative thoughts for IT, but I guess "technically", it is. We have access to ArcGIS Server, so many of our services for Online are just passing thru, so I consider the ArcGIS Online as just a way to "advertise" layers that typically are not available direct from our server. Just my thoughts.

Seema, I have not yet tried it with Portal, and don't have any plans to at this point. But hopefully someone else will comment. You may want to point your question in Web AppBuilder for ArcGIS which will get a larger audience then my Tips and Observations for getting Web AppBuilder - Developer Edition Installed blog.
