1 point is 1/72 of an inch. The relationship between the points and the ground size is the scale of the map. You can get the mapscale from the Imap interface. for example: 10pt text on 1/10,000 map is 10 * 1/72 / 1/10,000 = 1,388.9 inches or 35.3 meters

no worries, some times you just need to explain your problem or have someone repeat it back to you for the solution to become apparent. Many times I have opened a new thread on this forum, typed in my question in great detail, re-read it, see the solution and not post it to the forum.

I am not clear on what you want to do. A spatial query only works on one feature class but as far as I understand you only want to delete the features from one feature class. If you create your polygon first by unioning all the polygons from your buffer feature class, then use the polygon as the geometry in the spatial query, you should get all the features from the seperate feature class that intersect the one big polygon. You then can delete all these features one by one by going through the cursor.

I am pretty sure UAC is turned on. I do run VS using the run as.. an account on the local machine that has rights on the machine. I have to do this for installing software also. The problem is if I use that same account to run ArcMap (using debug for instance) it does not load the extension. Commands and tools in the same dll load ok. If I run ArcMap under the non-admin domain account, the extension shows up in the extensions list. I ran categories.exe, I see the extension under the mxExtension categorie but I couldn't remove it. I started categories.exe run as admin to clear it up and cleaned/recompiled the solution with the same result.

Network security is putting the screws on the development group. Our main domain account no longer has admin rights, so we have a local user with admin to run visual studio. We have a bunch of ArcMap customization started in the 9.3 days before addins. The problem is the MxExtensions, we can compile and register them fine as the local admin account. The load fine starting ArcMap under the network account. The problem is ArcMap does not load the extensions under the local admin account. That means if I start my app in debug mode (which starts ArcMap under the same account as VS) it doesn't load the extensions and I can't do any debugging... Any one encounter this? have a solution? cheers.

You might get more of a response from esri by going to tech support... I suspect it is the drawing events being handled by ArcMap in a dock window which doesn't happen in a simple form.

Ah yeah, I don't use java, I use .net. This project started at 9.3 and is a little too complicated for addins... I find a lot of the flakiness with the com interop for .net, I assume it is the same for java.

Duncan, I hadn't really considered that. I am more of an AO monkey. I still shudder at how bad the GP was in early 9.x versions. I was also worried that the lock files might cause problems. If I did that I wouldn't have to do synchronously (not a bad thing.) I put the file copy change into the staging environment, if it passes regression and UAT and makes into prod, I will let sleeping dogs lie, if not I will give that a go.

I have never actually done it so I don't know how well it works but the second argument you pass to the execute function is an ITrackCancel. If you implement the GP track cancel and pass it in, you should be able to let the user cancel the operation.

Hi Brad, This posting kind of stears away from the original topic of the thread and probably merits its own thread. This being said I am not surprised you are having trouble drawing OpenGL on a control within the ArcMap framework. Controls often have paint issue and problems forwarding events from ArcMap to the windows control instance hosted by ArcMap. Keep in mind that ArcMap still runs in 32 bit so any customization will be loaded in 32 bit.

I take it you are using a geographic coordinate system. Those are problematic since the 180 line is considered the zero X axis. One way to get around the problem is to add a line at 180 and make the polygon a two part polygon with a part on either side of the 180 line. The other solution is to change the coordinate system to something that will handle the 180 line better. In our application our polygons are north of 45 and most near the pole so we switched to a polar stereographic projected coordinate system.

So, if I recall correctly when queries are performed using ArcObjects the results do look at the delta tables, is that right? Yes they will look at the version of the workspace and recombine the tables. This makes a simple three or four table join blow up into full pages of SQL. But the documentation says that sub-queries will not look at the delta tables.
