If you have an Active Directory (AD) group set up with the users that need to "edit" the data, they could use the connection with OS credentials (no password needed) to make the connection and edit. Information left over in the cache from the previous version of the website may cause the upgraded website to display incorrectly, and you may not be able to sign in. What type of geodatabase did they send you? Can you provide a screenshot of it? Making an assumption that it is a file geodatabase (fGDB) and they did not send everything that was needed to make it work. The entire folder must be zipped up. Happy to test something if you want.
