I need trace so that a new polygon drawn will sit perfectly adjacent to an existing polygon. I can't have any gaps. I wonder if reducing the snapping tolerance may help... as that would minimise the number of nodes/verticies the cursor is recognising as potential snapping points.

Hmmm, I used to run this same tool. Try finding out the cell size of the seperate rasters and input that number into the cell size option in the tool, so you know the cell size is the same throughout the process. Export to GRID format too. I find it's the most ESRI friendly.

ArcMap 10.4 When drawing a new shape or re-drawing an existing shape using the trace tool, ArcMap will sometimes crash if snapping is enabled. These are the options I have enabled: Perhaps when moving my cursor around the map as I trace, it puts my PC resources under too much load. It's like the amount of nodes/verticies available to snap to is TOO DAMN HIGH! So ArcMap just gives up and dies. So far it's only crashed when drawing/re-shaping polygons. If I trace with snapping turned off, it doesn't crash. Has anyone else experienced this? I'll send a crash report next time it happens (but does anyone look at those anyway?) (side question: when writing a question on this forum, you are required to publish it in a location. however, there are no suitable locations for ArcMap related queries. Any ideas why this is?)

Thanks Robert, although that thread probably holds the answers, it looks way like it's way past my IT/networking expertise! proxies... jsons.... etc etc. Anyway, I still think ESRI need to develop a 'share privately' option. So only those with the URL can access the map. Theo

Well, ideally I don't want them to have to login to it. We just want a secret link on our website for them to visit (they'll be sent an email revealing the link). We don't want to have to provide 100s of usernames and passwords. Or buy 100s of named user accounts. Perhaps it's possible for me to remove all indexing tags on the web map? So it's 'un-searchable' on ArcGIS Online?

Thanks Jeff, but as soon as I read 'proxy with rules' I lost you! It all sounds a bit fiddly and IT focused. I'll have a read through that link and if I understand anything, I'll let you know! Theo

Ok, but we also plan to share it with 100s of our customers. Again, we only want customers who are sent the URL to be able to view the map. How can we do this? Theo

Hi all, I've made a web map app with sensitive data. I want to share the map with people within my company using the URL of the map. These people aren't in my ArcGIS Online 'organisation' or any of the groups on there, so in order for them to access the URL link, I have to share the map with 'everyone (Public)'. However I'm worried anyone in the world could now find the map online and access it. Is this true? How can I get around this problem? I think there needs to be a 'private URL' option when sharing these online maps. Thanks, Theo

Thanks Edie. Although I do agree with David, just chuck every symbol under the sun into the initial install package. It removes that extra step to connect to the internet. When I do perform a search for STYLX however, all the results are in a random order. There is no option to list alphabetically. It's rather hard to browse 😕

Oh I'm sure the 3D symbols work on a 2D map, I don't doubt that. But when you have 1000s of points to symbolise, you want simple lower-res 2D symbols for faster rendering perfomance.

Yep, not looking for 3D symbols I'm afraid. 0 2D symbols for a tree. How strange. Let's try some more common symbols: No 2D symbols relating to oil?! Just ONE result? Sure, I can get more symbols by manually importing the ones from my ArcMap installation, but Pro should have a huge range of symbols by default.

I've checked all the available 2D system styles on: yet when searching for something as simple as 'tree', I get no results:

And to answer my own question, you can import ArcMap symbols into Pro from the Insert ribbon if you have ArcMap already installed. Then broswe to: However, shouldn't the symbols be present in Pro by default? And what if you don't have ArcMap installed? Can you download styes (such as 'Forestry') from the web?

I have a point layer. I want to make the symbol for it a tree. In ArcMap 10.4, I open the Symbol Selector, type 'tree' and here are my results (excluding 3D symbols...) Lovely, lots of options for me to choose from. Now again, the same process in ArcGIS Pro 1.4.1 (again, exlcuding 3D symbols) Why does Pro not have all the symbols from ArcMap by default? And obviously it should also have a few more as it's a newer release!
