2.3.2 GDB polygons I have feature classes with dozens of polygons. I edit them as necessary and export to a new feature class within the GDB. I used to do this in ArcMap without any problems.

I've been having difficulties with features from other layers that are not turned on suddenly appearing when zooming in and out or otherwise navigating around the map. They come and go, and it is particularly problematic when trying to cut and paste from one layer into another (Actually, I've stopped even trying to do that as it is so buggy). Also after exporting features to a new feature class, they will sometimes all just disappear, except for one, even though they are shown as existing in the table, and closing down and reopening does not help. In those cases I just give up and delete the file and re-export the data. It is rather annoying and time-wasting. Is this just a known problem, unsolvable on my end, or is there something I can do to reduce this behavior? Thanks, Amy

Just wondering why sometimes I can access Autocomplete button in Create Features pane, but sometimes this shows up instead: and I can't identify an autocomplete function in this toolbar, although I think the trace button does something like that. But I'd really like to be able to consistently use autocomplete. Any ideas why it doesn't always show up? Thanks! Amy

Hi Tom, Yes, so sorry to not have dug deep enough before posting - I have managed to avoid messing with styles before, and just forgot about the option. Thanks so much for your help! Amy

I am trying to figure out how the legend below, which has not been converted to graphics, looks like it does, i.e., "Drop in Floor" and "Drop Off", which are actually in the same layer, are shown as independent layers. I tried to recreate this in another map and couldn't, even though all of the settings in Legend Properties are identical. How did they do this? Thanks! TOC LEGEND

I think I'm losing my mind. I suddenly noticed a feature that could not be selected in a feature class (I've been working on this feature class for a very long time, never seen it before, don't know how it got there). I turned all layers off, and it's still there! It's not a graphic, it's boundary scales with scale. Any ideas what's going on? (ArcGIS Pro) Follow-up: I saved, closed, and reopened the mxd - all is well, feature is gone. But still, weird!

But it should be a simple enough thing to do, right? I mean to put that capability into the software. If it can move data from one field to another for one file, it should be a simple thing to allow it to move multiple fields. But maybe it's not something people need to do often enough to make it worthwhile for ESRI to do.

So I did end up just merging without mapping and then creating a new field and calculating it differently for the two categories of features. It took a few minutes, but nothing like it would have taken to map each individually. I probably should put a little time into learning Python.

OK, I do actually understand what you're saying now (just took a few minutes to sink in), but I still am not sure how to select the source field from all the files at once. I think I tried just selecting it from one file, and it ended up mapping only that one file. I'm sure it's just a simple thing I'm not understanding, but it's hard to communicate what that thing is.

Oh dear, I'm afraid I don't follow. I thought you select one of the fields as your output field to map onto, and then select both of the input field variations to map onto that output field. But when you select input fields, it seems to make you do it file by file, which takes a long time for 200 files.

No, about half of the feature classes have one variation of a field name and the other have another. It should be straightforward, but I just couldn't figure out how to do it.

I'm merging a bunch of feature classes (400) and trying to understand the Field Map settings. I need to map multiple input fields onto one output field, but I can't figure out how to do that (it looks like I have to do it for each feature class individually, which can't be right). I've read the ESRI help page, but it just didn't go into enough detail for me. If some kind soul could step me through the process, I would appreciate it. Or if there's an ESRI tutorial that would help, I'd be grateful for the title.
