The grid labels don't seem to disappear when they are the full corner labels, e.g.3115000m N for a UTM full northing label. You can try fiddling around with corner labels if you can get to them for your coordinate system.

I haven't found any references to this error. My extension is working fine, until I try to export to XML. It produces errors for all geodb types. Running 10.1 everything, including SDE.

Your Trimble has built-in 3.5G modem connection capabilities. You can add a simcard. You need to then get a trial of a virtual base station network in your area and test connecting to see if you are going to get reliable service. These services usually have daily rates and other options. Not cheap. I don't see why you would need any special software. We went another route, so I haven't tried these methods.

I have SDE annotation feature classes that are not feature-linked but should have been. They, for example, follow curving lines and those lines are in an SDE or other GDB FC. The annotation is of course now out of synch with the data. I am starting to clean up this mess. What is the best way to build this association between the annotation and feature? Many of the files are not huge, so I realize I could just set up nice Maplex labels and convert them to new annotation FC. TIA

The (Windows) Accessories/System Tools Character Map tool also shows you all the symbols for your installed fonts. It also lets you copy and paste the one you choose, so you can skip the Alt- and character number step.

Our 6000 Geo XH's interface response time starts to slow down after about 90 minutes of data collection. It seems to get slowly worse and worse. It is not awful in most cases, but it is annoying. It does not seem to matter whether the background layers are turned off, the number of records collected or viewed is big or small, labeling is on or off, points vs. long lines are collected, domains are used, battery is/is not fully charged, file being edited is shapefile or geodb...pretty much everything you might think might be the problem does not seem to be. There is lots of free memory and we get no error messages. Turning ArcPad on and off does not help. This smells like a Windows Mobile 6.5 Pro memory leak or related problem to me. There are lots of complaints on the Web about non-GPS WM 6 systems. Am I on the right track? I would like to stop trying to tweak ArcPad because of this problem.

If anyone else encounters this problem, I am offering one (not very easy) solution. We had to migrate to a new server, and this problem disappeared when the files were copied. There is probably a less dramatic way to reset these version specifications, such as a command-line solution.

Thank you for your reply. If you only want to register a single feature class as versioned, you will need to consider moving it out of the feature dataset. I definitely don't want to do that. I want to register almost all of the FDSs as versioned so I can edit this data. As for the first part of your post, I'm not sure if this is your production database or how much data you have, but might it be possible to create new feature datasets and feature classes... then load those feature classes with the data from your existing feature classes? Otherwise, it may be cleaner to simply create a new geodatabase entirely... although more time consuming. This is a mapping/production dataset accessed by other groups. We really can't take it down easily or rename all the datasets, and right now I have little ArcSDE DBA support. There are about 100 feature classes, with about 20 of them loose and about 5 in feature datasets that do not have this problem. So how did this happen? way back in version 8.3? This seems like a bug that the database upgrade tools did not take care of this.

I have 10.1 ArcSDE feature datasets that I would like to register as versioned. For most FDSs (with ArcMap, ArcCatalog, and geoprocessor), I get an error that states I can't do this while tables are set to move edits to base. It seems that in some earlier ArcMap version, some feature classes may have been registered as versioned. I have not gone through every FDS looking for this, but I did find one annotation FC like this. In this version of the software, there does not appear to be any way to get a feature class versioned while the feature dataset is not. As it stands, I can't edit directly, version, or unversion most of the data in this database.

Agree wholeheartedly. This drives us all nuts. One thing that works around the problem is setting a bunch of bookmarks for the ArcPad map of where we will be going. That makes getting back to the right scale and location a little easier. I tried saving a default scale with that map but that does not help at all. This still happens after marking a few points, even very close together.

You could also try using a legend with the legend limiter or doing a page definition query on the buildings layer. This only requires adding a field to buildings that links those records to your DD index layer driver field.

The popup tool only works in Data view. It also only works on the top record of a layer with the popup tool enabled (but I believe this is the default).

To do this while digitizing, you can use the Editor's Show Vertices window. It may not be real graceful to copy these values into a table, but you can see X and Y as you draw the polygons.
