The method you've described only works if your survey has no required questions. For example, I have a survey that is only completed in 3 separate locations. Each location has their own iPad, and the answer to the location question will always be the same for each iPad at each location. I want to save my pre-populated 'location' question as a favorite, and leave the rest (including required questions) blank. It's a bummer this can't be done.

Hi Kevin, Is there an ETA for when this fixed release will be available to the public? I have some users interested in trying out the updated Collector in the field, who also use the Bad Elf GPS Pro. I'll save them the frustration of trying and failing for now, but would love if I could give them an ETA on a fix for this so they can use their GPS successfully. Thanks! Erica

Does this version of Collector support the Bad Elf GPS Pro? I've tested Collector with my Bad Elf GPS Pro, and it can not connect to the device in a map, even though the iPad is connected via Bluetooth, and the connection has been established in the Collector settings. When I test this in Classic, I am able to locate myself immediately. I ran the same test with a second GPS device - this time a Bad Elf GPS Pro+, and was able to successfully establish a connection in both Collector, and Classic with no issues.

I have experienced this intermittently. For instance, I am able to download an offline area for a map to my phone using the LTE network, and a co-worker is unable to download the same offline area on her iPad over WiFi. She does not see an error, it starts downloading, then that disappears and nothing happens.

Hi Mike, I'm using Pro version 2.2.0. I'm not sure how to track the request sent from Pro to ArcGIS Online... This layer is not shared outside of my organization, however I can create a temporary group within my organization that I can invite you to. Would this be OK? You can contact me at erica.tefft@mass.gov and I will set it up. Thank you, Erica

Hi Mike, We are able to set up a filter, using the Date field, on the layer in ArcGIS Online. It was actually because of this that the user wanted to be able to have the same definition query set up in our ArcGIS Pro project. I've also gone ahead and tested using a definition query on a date field with two other hosted feature layers that are in the same ArcGIS Pro project (and part of the same data collection effort in Collector) - the definition query failed on these two layers as well. I have a few follow-up questions: 1) Could this be because these data are collected with Collector? I don't see why this would matter, but I know that dates can be quirky (at least with Survey123). 2) Could the fact that this is a shared ArcGIS Pro project be an issue? Thanks for your continued help, I really appreciated it! Erica

Hi Mike, I just tested the same layer with another definition query and it worked fine (this was on a string field w/ domains). Also, to answer some of your questions - yes, I am logged into AGOL (administrator account - not sure if that matters), the feature layer is shared with one group, but is not owned by my account. Also of note, when the owner of the hosted feature layer tries to make the same definition query (by date) on the layer, while logged into his account, it also does not work for him.

Hi Mike, I have a question about applying a definition query to a hosted feature layer being consumed within ArcGIS Pro. My HFS has a date field; I want to display features that were inspected after a certain date. When I open layer properties in Pro, go to the definition query tab and build my expression using the query builder, it initially shows a green check for a valid expression, before changing to invalid. The goal is to easily visualize which feature have had an inspection since a certain date. They are overlaid on another copy of the HFS. This works perfectly in our AGOL web map, but we can't get it to work for Pro. Thanks for any help, Erica

Hi Aurelie, The idea of geopoints within repeats has crossed my mind, but I've been unsure of what the end data would look like that I haven't given much though. I did quickly create a copy of my existing survey and add in nested repeats this morning. Although the output data itself might take a bit for our Monitoring staff to get used to, it exported very nicely to a custom reporting template - which is ultimately the most important component. As far as launching from Collector via the custom URL - we already do this for established waypoints, but in some instances we also collect new ones. This is the only problem I see with the nested repeat method. When I used a custom URL to pass coordinates from Collector into Survey123, the coordinates are automatically associated with the point created automatically when the survey is submitted, and not with the first nested repeat geopoint. Which makes sense, and could mean that we can just alter our workflow to collect all new waypoints, and then append them to an "existing" dataset at the end of each monitoring season. Thank you for the suggestion!

Hi Rob, Unfortunately, that isn't possible because of the way in which our monitoring protocols are designed. There is one monitoring report created per property (e.g. one survey), but one property can have multiple waypoints and photos. Our monitoring photo survey is set up so that within the main table you describe the property, date, geopoint, and location at which you're standing, and then within a relate you can take multiple photos and answer questions about the content of each photo. So, one survey response could have anywhere from 1-4 photos for a single waypoint, but that survey could be completed 1-xx times per property.

Hi James, I guess I was thinking more of having the ability to switch between them in a similar way you can switch between applications on an iPhone. But yes - I did know that it was possible to switch between surveys in the way you've described.

Hi James, I’m envisioning the ability to complete two surveys simultaneously, so I guess switching between two surveys “live”? I’m not really sure what it would look like I guess. I just want the ability to have two open at once and to go back and forth between them without loosing information. Here is my scenario: We already have an established survey for conservation restriction monitoring waypoint photos. This survey allows us to describe the location and then take multiple photos and fill in photo descriptions. We also want to move our monitoring report into Survey123 as it is currently all paper-based, however because we are already using Survey123 for our photo survey we’re unsure of our next steps. We’ve looked into potentially using another software (e.g. GeoJot) but feel like it’s silly to pay for something we already have with S123. Survey123 is ideal for both of these workflows because of the ability to export to the report template. Since we currently can’t fill out two surveys simultaneously, and don’t want to invest in other software, we’re thinking of using a fillable PDF that can be completed on an iPad in the field. Not ideal, but something that could work for now. I know we’d love to hear that this capability might appear down the road.

Hi Ben, Center is not a field within my survey, it is similar to “field” within the custom URL and just providing a description of what parameters come next. I’m sure I’m not explaining that properly, and someone could do a better job than me! Basically, it’s just prepping your link to pass X,Y coordinates. As for X, and Y, these are two fields that have been added to the dataset I’m using to launch Survey123. My survey only has a geopoint question, and the X,Y coordinates from a feature (usually in Collector) are passed from there into Survey123. So, as an example: I have a point feature layer representing existing waypoints. I want to be able to complete a survey at these waypoints using their exact X,Y coordinates. I set up my existing waypoints file to have an X,Y field which I have calculated in ArcGIS Pro using Calculate Geometry (the coordinates need to be in WGS84). Separately, I’ve created a survey that allows the user to take multiple photos and fill out location and photo descriptions. This survey has a geopoint field. In AGOL I create my web map containing my existing waypoints feature layer. I give this a custom pop-up with the URL scheme above to launch Survey123. The XY from my existing waypoints is passed from that FL to my Survey123 geopoint question. When I fill out the survey, I just check to make sure the coordinates come in and then move on to complete the survey. Hope this helps!
