Have been having this issue - also sporadic issues with feature layers not showing up in new Map Viewer. In trying to troubleshoot, I have tried various combinations - browsers - to see if there are differences. I have disabled browser extensions i.e., security - different ones, to test if this has an effect. I reset browser settings (Edge) to default settings. Firefox seems to work better than Edge - have not yet tested Chrome or Safari, as those are not used as much by our customers. Question: Was AGOL tested and certified in every browser flavor before these latest changes/releases? Can't find any of that on the Esri Site (testing certifications) for AGOL - if these exist, please send a link. This is pretty serious, as we cannot produce anything for customers while we are having these issues until we know more. I'd be happy to sit online and show what I've found. Screen shots will not show anything as you kind of have to be looking at it when it's happening (or not happening). Also, since having these issues, some of my hosted content gives some error messages - permissions - like I don't have access when I'm the owner of the content (?) - anyone else experiencing this? This is content that I published under the user_id that is the administrator of the overall site and has the max permissions. These worked awhile back - any way to get our AGOL audited for corruption issues or is that something we have to take up with support? Would be great to be notified if there are errors in our AGOL instance so that we can troubleshoot. Just noticed these issues beginning last Thursday/Friday time frame, but can't say they didn't start earlier, as we normally check our gallery about once a month for issues. Some of the content is older and might require updating - since we see some of the old base-maps are now deprecated, stuff like that. Any help on this will be appreciated. In the meantime, we will not use Edge, since there appears to be something going on in that browser that isn't in Mozilla Firefox.

Hi Steve - I have looked again at the issues you face. As an aside, I think that potentially, the ArcGIS Online Assistant link that I sent may have been an earlier iteration of Geojobe's applications that do the same thing - not sure. It does still have the function of setting URLs to another URL. I am looking at it right now. StoryMaps seem to present a different situation. One thing is that StoryMaps start off in a different root than the rest of our AGOL content. It appears that if we try to move the StoryMaps we make off that root, to say our own site's root on AGOL - things break. I can't look at a Portal right now to determine if StoryMaps in Portal come from the internal source our how that looks since it is inside a firewall vs. being outside the firewall. I suspect that all of these are situated in the storymaps folder up there - but, I'm not looking at the information architecture paths on this except through the browser's developer tools. Of course when we are building dynamic content, the user-experience full life-cycle is often time not thought about in our fast-paced development scenarios - we find that often people just start developing maps and apps without any sort of overall design plan or thought about forward life-cycle of maintaining over a long period of time. It seems that the focus is more about quick delivery of the application and what the needs are for it - and sometimes the "hurry up" factor overrides all other aspects. Migration paths often seem to be afterthoughts. At this point in my decades long career, I could write an entire book about GIS migrations and management of change! Yet here we are and we just do what it takes to keep our users' needs fulfilled, if we can. A suggestion of on we might, for the future, is to put up in ArcGIS Ideas a request to make maintaining these StoryMaps more sustainable, by enabling content publishers/authors to utilize a custom URL (or rename a URL), as you would a web page or post as we are able to do with web content in other platforms. I'm not the expert on this - but, through maintaining several websites that use different platforms, most have this capability. But, one simple idea might be to request the ability to customize our URLs so that they make more sense to our end users and we can manage moving to the newest versions with less headaches and impact to them, so that they can continue receiving good uninterrupted service from their apps. Any change we can reduce is of benefit to them in doing their daily work, which often does not involve managing IT stuff.

Probably best for you to look at the tool and the utilities to see if it will work for you. If you go to that link I posted for AGOL Assistant, and sign into your portal(s) (AGOL or Enterprise Portals) you can see if any of the utilities/functions do what you need for them to do. Before you even log in read the landing page of AGOL Assistant. Anyhow, good luck and hope it works for you.

Hi @SteveBeste - if you want to experiment here is the link: ArcGIS Online Assistant (esri.com) It's pretty straightforward to understand. You must have admin rights on the sites that you want to move content from A to B. There are some other utilities, as well. Check it out. It was suggested to me by some people years ago, and it still seems to function OK. I signed in yesterday to check to see if I could still use it. Let us know what you figure out, whether it works for you in your situation.

Just an innocent question here: would ArcGIS Online Assistant help in this case or no? I haven't tested this, but it does have some of that functionality... I may try it and see what happens... In the past I had used it to lift and shift content from one Portal (dev) to another (prod). It's one of those "rare find" tools that someone told me about and I have used it quite a bit for managing content between sites. I will update this post once I see if that might work...

Thanks @Anonymous User - I just now have read your note (above) - good links to the AVG site! I continued to check all of the security software and found that I needed to add both arcgis.com and esri.com to allowed websites in the AVG Anti-Track tool - which is one of the five settings groups (currently) in AVG Anti-Track. This solved the issue, so thanks so much for working with me on this. My gut sense is that it was a security issue - it wouldn't be the first time that I've encountered this interfering with Esri's software both in the installed OS environments and the web browser - there are just so many security software options these days, it's hard to keep up with which ones do what - but image blocking is a fairly common setting across the board. Hoping that this thread helps someone else out there in our Esri ecosystem of users!

Sure, @Anonymous User - I have isolated it to the part see below using the developer tools in Edge - it shows up under security and has an entry for each content listing on the page: Now, whether or not it is my particular computer's security - I have AVG and what comes with Windows is always running - but, I have not noticed this until recently. I have some weeks where I do not log in every day to our AGOL, due to working in other environments. At any rate, I attached two more screen shots that give a little bit more info - and if someone is looking at this, they can contact me to troubleshoot, if they wish. I don't see this in my mobile device (iOS) - so something tells me it's either Windows (some setting) or my security software - but I searched it, and nothing pops out - and as I said, it hasn't happened until recently. I've been using AVG for many years. Not had issues. Thanks for your help. -Ellen-

This past week is when I began seeing this behavior. Clearing browser caches and such is always what I do first - but next I'll check another browser flavor to see if it's the browser... Of course, seeing it in three different flavors of browsers, I next wondered if security software might be interfering with something - but, I haven't been able to track that down - I shut off those extensions to see if that made a difference, and so far not. Since my AGOL front page changed, assuming with updates, (logo position was re-arranged, mainly, and the font size of the site header shrunk), I am wondering if something else changed in the overall interface that isn't playing well with something in my environment (graphics related... maybe?) - so, I made sure every driver was updated. No change. When I did some troubleshooting using my browser's dev tools, there were a lot of incompatibilities and errors that flagged up - but, I figured that this is out of my wheelhouse, so I thought I should see if anyone else is having this issue. I have a big Samsung monitor that I use; and like I said initially, I've see the issue in all three browsers that I have running on my Windows 10 machine - Firefox, Chrome, and Edge. This machine that I use is a standard Dell Inspirion 5000 series laptop - I don't have a third party graphics card on this - just standard issue that comes with this Dell machine. So, if you all have any ideas, that could help me figure out the issue, if it's on my end, then let me know.

First screen shot is for the organization's content - next is within a folder... same issues - at the bottom the text goes into the gray space, so something isn't displaying properly, I guess. When I view the table of contents in our ArcGIS Online account - there are some interesting letters that come up within the TOC between the check box and the title. Is anyone else seeing this? I have looked at my browser settings - and since ArcGIS Online is in transition - is there anything that I can do to adjust this from our end? I didn't see any other posts about this out here, so it could be something within the browser settings - but, that has not happened that we've had to adjust our browser settings in the past. Thanks for any guidance or help on this.

Hi David, One thought - and you might have already considered this, but if not, we can review something that might be causing these issues... Before you published, did you conduct the re-project geoprocessing operation on each of your "to be published" data layers, using the geoprocessing tools in ArcGIS Pro, re-projecting from their existing CRS/projection into Web Mercator? You likely know this, but to review this concept, inside of Pro (or ArcMap), whenever you add a layer to an existing map that is in a certain projection, there is a transformation that occurs with any layers added to the map from their CRS/projection to that of the map. However, the data itself isn't re-projected in this operation. Re-projection requires a deliberate geoprocessing operation in order to re-project the data from it's current CRS/projection into a different CRS/projection system. Those tools are in the data management geoprocessing tools. Sometimes, the misalignments and inability to view results after publishing, are due to these projection misfit issues. This can happen when sharing from desktop application, maps or features, where layers in the maps may be of various CRS/projections, and have been transformed on the fly, to align for viewing in the given map. When sharing published map services or feature services, it can be problematic if certain steps are not taken ahead of time with the data itself to prepare for publishing. Usually, however, if there are mixed projections in the map or features being shared, an error is noted in the analysis ahead of publishing, when this is an issue. For publishing to web services, what I typically do, since most layers need to work in Web Mercator, is to make a re-projected copy of my layer(s) that will be published as web services. I keep the originals in their original working projection, as my base data, which I will use for re-projecting to the required CRS/projection for specific purposes. If the data is edited, I can re-run this again if I save that geoprocessing task in a Model Builder model. I have found that it's also helpful to note all of this information in the layer's metadata, for later reference or for others, to understand what operations have been undertaken and the original data source's CRS/projection. If you have covered all of these bases, then it could be something else. In the meantime, I will see if this is an issue in any of my maps created in Map Viewer Classic, that I open up in the new Map Viewer. With change always comes an amount of change management. The new #MapViewer has lots of cool features and is still missing some old favorite features in Map Viewer Classic, but, continuing to communicate what we need is part of the adoption process. Hope it helps!

I am testing maps in AGOL today to see what issues I might have, because I do like the enhanced functionality of the new map viewer version and would like to use it. Transitioning to new from old always requires some "change management". Here are a few tactics that I use to troubleshoot issues: I found in testing that some issues were machine-type dependent for some apps - that the app worked fine on my main machine but on my notebook PC, it did not come up and display normally. Related to content not showing, I have found issues with using certain maps and apps in AGOL with certain browsers and not others. When I switch to a different browser, the content displays, where it did not or had issues in another browser "brand". I imagine with the variety of devices and device-types that exist today, it would be quite difficult to have these work 100% of the time on all devices and within the various browser types across devices. There are quirks with some web apps (in general, not just ArcGIS web apps) where something retained in your browser history from one website causes issues with other site content. One thing I try to do when I am having display issues in browsers is to go clear my history, cookies, etc., shut down the browser, open it up, and login again to AGOL to see if that fixes the problem(s). Sometimes I use the web browser's developer tools to dig deeper for errors. (See example below) Every browser flavor has these. In your browser, usually, you go into your settings, and there will be a menu item for tools or developer tools. If you go into a Console view, you can usually see what is throwing errors when the page is loading, to at least give you some hints as to what is going on. Here is an example of what I found when I loaded one of my maps created in Classic Map Viewer into the new Map Viewer - I found out exactly what the problem was with one layer's labeling situation when I used the Console view in the Edge DevTools (Edge Browser), and opened up the error to see the details. It says that the Renderer of type heatmap does not currently support labeling. Ok, so I know that this is causing one issue. I have to open up the error message, where it has a right pointing arrow with an f to see what is going on in more detail in the error message. I don't know if this will help you troubleshoot - and of course, there are always the great folks at Esri Support who can help you dig deeper. I will try to follow up on this in this feed if I discover anything else related to this. Hope it helps.
