After 2 and a half hours of messing with the MXD the original author discovered that he had to redo the joins even after we changed the data sources. What a pain! ESRI, your set data source function doesn't work when map symbolization is coming from an attribute in the joined table.

I'm trying to publish an MXD on our production ArcGIS Map Server but the analyze keeps reporting that a data source is not registered with ArcGIS Server. It thinks there is a layer coming from our dev database instance when after all of MXD layers have been repointed to our production database instance. I've used both the ArcCatalog - Set Data Sources and manually resourcing the layers but with no luck. Has anyone seen were ArcGIS Server complain about a datasource that no longer exists in the MXD? There are only about 8 layers in the map some of which contain Joins. Do we have to manually redo the joins? The data is in ArcSDE 10.1 SP1, SQL 2012.

The application didn't work that well on the iPads at the UC that were sitting out for attendences to use. What I found the best were the hard copies of topic specific tech sessions that the ESRI employees had at the different islands. There where no details but at least all the sessions for a topic were layed out in a easy to scan fashion The ESRI folks gave me copies whenever I spotted one of the lists at an island it would have been great to have had access to them on line in the same format.

I think ESRI has been trying to kill off the shapefile so I don't see them creating a modified format that the older products like ArcView 3.x and ArcGIS 8.1-10.2.2 won't be able to read. Not that I don't think it's a good idea. Especially since the File Geodatabase has not seen much use outside of ESRI products.

I think ESRI has been trying to kill off the shapefile so I don't see them creating a modified format that the older products like ArcView 3.x and ArcGIS 8.1-10.2.2 won't be able to read. Not that I don't think it's a good idea. Especially since the File Geodatabase has not seen much use outside of ESRI products.

Hated the waste of space in the session planner this year. It was designed for a touch screen with only I think 5 sessions titles on screen at a time. But I don't have a touch screen so all it was a big waste of space. On my iPhone 4 it kept crashing. I had a problem adding to my session planner and contacted ESRI. I heard back that there were problems with IE but they were fixing them. Unfortunately, they didn't mention that on the site. Some how I sessions I never tagged started showing up. I contacted ESRI again the asked for my useridbut I never heard bad from them. THis was like 2 weeks before the conference.

Yes, way too much wasted space! Even the emails sent out have wasted white space that makes it harder to see the meat of the message. Maybe if we call complain next week at the conference Jack will get the message.

When I upgraded from 10.0 to 10.1 the default geometry storage changed from SDEBinary to Geometry which initially I didn't notice. So the original feature classes all use SDEBinary and everything added since the migration is stored using the Geometry (SQL spatial). But now my exising workflow is broken. The Append command doesn't work if the target and source featureclasses use different geometries. Why does this fail when I can do an Append between an feature class in a FGDB and an SDE database? For the most part, arcpy is largely moving forward to Pro intact. -Dave Dave, I missed last years user conference so I was wondering if there are any articles you can point us to that outline what's happening with ArcGIS Desktop? From what I've heard Desktop can't be upgraded to 64-bit so that's where Pro comes in? Does that mean Desktop will go away? But from whay I've quoted you on that our ArcGIS Desktop scripts will be able to run under Pro? Sorry, I didn't want to hijack this theard but I'm confused on the future of Desktop.

I forget the details but there was a bug introduced in 9.2 in a command that was never fixed until 9.3.1. I wasted god knows how long trying to debug a program and then with ESRI support before finding out the command didn't work. Updating the help page would have saved me time and all the other users who tried to use a command in their scripts that never worked in 9.2.

We recently added a relationaip class between a feature class and a table at the request of a user. Now we have a bunch of python scripts failing due to how the Copy_management tool works. The tool copies over any tables that are involved in relationship classes. This is great functionality but is there any way to ignore relationship classes and related tables?

Jessica, What type of database are you looking for? If it's a personal or file geodatabase check out James Fee's website. He has saved empty versions. http://www.spatiallyadjusted.com/2006/11/21/esri-92-personal-geodatabases-in-arcgis-91/
