I've experienced and heard of several "glitches" in the export process to PDF and other formats. I'm sure ESRI has a team of people working to fix them. You may learn more from a "Search Forums" search. I found this post by searching "pdf problems". It may have some similarities to your problems, and maybe solutions. http://forums.arcgis.com/threads/27231-Export-to-PDF-drops-graphics?highlight=pdf+problems I also searched "export problems" and found other possibly relevant posts. Good luck!

I think that ArcGIS is reading the \n as a new line within the text string instead of reading the document path as pure text. I think you are right.

I don't have a Python solution (something I'd love to see), but I have used the GeoHMS command without having to go through the whole processing of generating a GeoHMS project. You can simply start with the Arc Hydro process and then set up the layers in the Data Management portion of the GeoHMS toolbar and then use the toolbar menus. I do this for the parameter menu also. The latest GeoHMS actually has the terrain processing commands built into the GeoHMS toolbar. So, you can do almost all of the terrain processing and all using the GeoHMS toolbar.

Part of my problem is that I simply do not know where you write the expressions If you have spatial analyst, you can enter the command in to Raster Calculator. This is possibly and icon in the SA toolbar (I have not used 9.3 in a while), but i is also a tool in the SA Toolbox (spatial analyst tools.tbx\map algebra\raster calculator). Have you tried Arc Hydro tools to "cut" streams into your DEM?

Do you think the error could be due to the Lookup("roadpct","Count") trying to work on a raster that has Null values in it? What if you first cleared out the nulls using Con(IsNull(("roadpct")), 0,("roadpct")) and then performed ("roadpct" / 100) / Float(Lookup("roadpct", "Count")).

Jamal, After some trial and error, I found that you need to enclose the expressions on either side of the "&" with "()"s. The equestion below worked for me: Con("Rainfall"<456, 0.3*"Rainfall", Con(("Rainfall">456) & ("Rainfall"<700), 0.46*("Rainfall"-159), 0.36*("Rainfall"-285))) Also, you had wrapped the second Con() with "()" and I took that out. You may want to explore the greater or equals to ">=" and less than or equal to "<=" test so your don't miss something that hits values right on. Hope this helps.

First is that I want to take a GPS generated Google Earth placemark made by me and send it to my shape file in ArcGis, how do I do it? There is a conversion tool for this: ArcToolbox>Conversions>From KML what are the procedures for calculating the watershed? Once you get a DEM as bjardot explained, you will need to manipulate the DEM in a series of steps called Terrain Preprocessing. There are hydrology tools in Spatial Analyst Tools>Hydrology to do this. There are also specialized tools for this also created by ESRI for the US Army Corps of Engineers. You can get them for free from their website. I posted their link at this post http://forums.arcgis.com/threads/58594-DEM?p=202093#post202093. The GeoHMS install exe will install both ArcHydro and HEC-GeoHMS. Both have similar toolbars with functions that will do what you want. It is not "simple". The order you do things in is important. Be careful to install the version of GeoHMS that goes with your version of ArcMap I detailed this once in this thread: http://forums.arcgis.com/threads/53316-Why-can-t-I-define-a-stream-network?p=182644#post182644 I believe you need the Spatial Analyst to use any of these tools as Spatial Analyst is needed to manipulate rasters.

Another possible solution is to change your setting using "AdvancedArcMapSettings.exe" registry editor - typically stored in the C:\Program Files\ArcGIS\Desktop10.0\Utilities folder. My settings are shown below in the image. I attribute this finding the help I received via this thread that I started: http://forums.arcgis.com/threads/55419-CPU-speed-and-Memory-requirements-for-ArcHydro-and-Geoprocessing?p=197193#post197193

I ran into the same thing. The clip won't work when printing. Its a known problem that I think they are trying to solve. There are other forum posts on this, but I couldn't find them in a quick search. My advice is to find another way to highlight the boundary. I've created a "mask" of everything outside the boundary and then made that transparent to make everything else fade.

A DEM (digital elevation model) is a raster that represents elevations. For terrain processing for hydrology, start with the DEM and go from there. I suggest downloading ArcHydro. You can get it via the HEC-GeoHMS installation http://www.hec.usace.army.mil/software/hec-geohms/download.html. HEC-GeoHMS has some terrain processing tools also, some of the same functionality as ArcHydro, but simplified. HEC-GeoHMS is intended to manipulate the GIS layers to eventually export to HEC-HMS for hydrology modeling outside of ArcMap.

I've always had good luck downloading and running the HEC-GeoHMS install file from the Corps of Engineers http://www.hec.usace.army.mil/software/hec-geohms/download.html. There is a version for ArcGIS 9.3 and one for ArcGIS 10. The install file installs ArcHydro (and all other utilities needed for ArcHydro) and GeoHMS. There are some useful tools in GeoHMS that are absent in ArcHydro. HEC-GeoHMS is written by ESRI for the Corps. My impression is that the Corps reviews the version before posting it on their website so it is likely a stable version. There was a time that I was frequently downloading and installing ArcHydro from the ESRI ftp ( ftp://ftp.esri.com/ArcHydro/ ) in hopes that some of my problems with ArcHydro would be fixed with the latest version. Then I was told by someone on the ESRI ArcHydro Team that the versions in the ftp folder were versions in the development stages and they may not all be stable. I do not know if that is still true.

Try entering the ftp address into Windows Explorer, not Internet Explorer. Open a folder on your computer and type in (or copy/paste) the ftp address into that. You will get a view of the folders.
