Hi all, I am looking to use geoprocessing tools or python script in ArcPro to identify numeric data (year) within cells of one attribute table column, pull the year and then populate a corresponding attribute table cell with that data. I've attached a screenshot example of the data for water pipe that I would look to use as a test. I want to run the tool on a large number of records (over 12,000) have them identify and copy the four digit year from a project (district) description, then populate the 'year_inst' field with said number. Is this feasible? Or at least a version of it that I could then QC? I would appreciate any and all feedback as I'm not looking forward to attempting to clean thousands upon thousands of attribute records. Appreciate this community and any help offered. Cheers, -Matt

Hello all, With a bit of extra money in the departmental budget for software allocation, I have started looking into possible ArcPro extensions, and I thought I would post to the community to see what people use the most and get the most value from or helps save the most time in their work flow. (Spatial Analyst, Network Analyst, ArcScan, etc.) Sidebar: I work mainly in and with Engineering and Public works, so I work heavily with Engineering design, management and exchange of data between Autocad and ArcGIS, develop apps for field use, and also use some analysis tools for asset management and planning purposes. (just to give a bit of context and see if there's anything specific that would help in that arena). Any and all feedback is welcome and much appreciated! I am looking forward to seeing what everyone utilizes and in what ways. Cheers, -Matt

Thanks Johannes, this was very easy to follow and navigate. I tested on a dummy set first, and it worked! Much appreciated with the feedback and screenshots. You just reinforced my belief I need to brush up/build on my Python skills. Cheers!

I am attempting to take multiple field attributes with a specific classification/moniker (in this case-- any attribute field containing a value with SAS-06-xxxxx), and replace them with classification more in line with the rest of the attributes (Ascending sequential values up from SAS-02-05700 as a starting point). What would the python syntax look like in the code block using Field Calculator. Novice with Python, so any help/feedback is appreciated. Thx.

Robert Scheitlin, GISP So I've recently been attempting to calculate road widths for a project, and I figured there must be some toolset to do large areas fairly quickly. I've come across a custom toolset for calculating road/stream widths (link to tool below). Yet the toolset won't actually execute once I've added it to ArcMap. A few pieces of info: 1. I'm using ArcMap v.10.5.1 2. I have a road widths .shp, as well as road centerline (both necessary for executing the toolset) 3. Upon initial test, I received this: 'ERROR 000824: The tool is not licensed.' (perhaps I haven't properly added/activated the custom toolset?) 4. I'm going to trying to create a geodatabase in which all of my input/output datasets are stored to see if that fixes the issue. 5. If I can't find a solution, is there an easier way to do this in either ArcMap or ArcPro? Toolset Link: https://www.arcgis.com/home/item.html?id=ede4729410e846638520f99901542518 I'll try a couple more things with this toolset and I appreciate any/all feedback I can get on this. Thanks, -Matt

I'm Calculating Road Width. I can certainly try to create a closed polygon from the road edge/curb line .shp. Is there a lot of variability with the attached method? AKA, can you pick specific pts on the road polygon to create a measurement? Or is it run at standardized pts? Thanks & I'll investigate the link. -Matt

I was curious if anyone had any suggestions for which method is most efficient for measuring road widths in a given area, whether it's a specific tool or otherwise. I have a road centerline .shp, and could import a curbline .shp from autocad (if necessary). I am using arcdesktop v. 10.5.1 (and have also been meaning to download and start working with ArcPro as well). Let me know what you think in the comments below. Thanks, -Matt

I was curious if anyone has experience using Lucity AMS, and if so--what are your thoughts/opinions on it? How is the integration side to AGOL? How user-friendly is Lucity? Are there other AMS packages that people like better? I just wanted to use this as a sounding board and get people's thoughts. I appreciate any feedback on this. Thanks, -Matt

Katherine, I tried a few things, but I think what solved it was doing a 'program repair' then uninstall/reinstall of Arcdesktop. So far, it seems to have worked. -Matt

The past several days, after I save a session in a map I had regularly been updating, upon re-opening the .mxd the next morning, I've found that my .shp files are missing from under the group layer in the TOC. I am attempting to uninstall/reinstall of ArcMap, try the edit/save, reopen on another computer, among other things to see what the issue is. This is very strange and I've never encountered it before (I've moved the local version of a shapefile to another file location before and had the 'red check mark-broken link' error before, but never shapefiles completely wiped from the TOC). This is an annoyance if I have to re-upload all of my .shp files to my maps I had just edited the day before. Any ideas of what the issue is/how to fix would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, -Matt

Thanks Jared, I went through the process of 'renaming the ESRI folder under %APPDATA%' and that seemed to fix the template/toolset issues. Now I've talked with ESRI support and am trying to figure out why my maps are completely wiping my shapefiles from under my group layers in the TOC every time I re-open Arcdesktop in the morning. I'm going to go ahead and re-install ArcMap, try saving/closing/re-opening on another computer--to see if what happens. If you have any other ideas as to what could be causing the issue, please let me know. Thanks, -Matt

When I opened a .mxd on arcdesktop yesterday, my toolsets and drop-down ribbons were gone--that was fairly easily to fix, I just had to go back under the customizable options and re-select all the tool ribbons I had set previously (but still a pain). This morning however, it was a step further, and the layers in my TOC were completely disappeared (not just there with the broken link-red check mark). Any ideas on what is going on or how to recover? I'd really rather not have to reload all the .shp files onto these maps. Any help/ideas would be greatly appreciated, Thanks, -Matt

Thanks for the link to the thread Katherine. A lot of the issues being discussed are what I'm encountering. Of course the solutions aren't optimal (we don't use ArcPro, and changing symbology would be wonky for our staff out in the field). I think I'll have to try to uninstall the windows update or something. Frustrating stuff. Thanks again for the thread. I've sent out an email to my ESRI support rep and will probably try calling ESRI tech support again today to see if there's been any updates or easier fixes. Best, -Matt

Certain utility layers are not showing up in the Arc explorer mobile app (iphones/ipads), and yet the layers are all there in the hosted services I've created on my AGOL account, and show up in the desktop browser version of the map. Any ideas as to what the issue could be? Any help on the matter would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, -Matt

I was toying around with a hub site editor, and I noticed with updates that I couldn't find a scroll through option for my web map thumbnails. I'm assuming this would probably necessitate some custom code? Or am I missing something obvious? Any tips/tricks/help on this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, -Matt
