You will need to customize the QUERYFORM in ArcPad Studio to add a control which references the ObjectID field. 1. Open your AXF in ArcPad Studio. 2. Under 'Feature Layers' double-click on the feature class for which you want to search ObjectID's. 3. Under 'Forms' double-click on <QUERYFORM>. 4. On an existing page (or a new page that you add) drag over an Edit Control from the Controls Palette. The Edit Control has an "ab" on it and is the upper right-hand corner of the palette. 5. Double-click the new control that you've dropped onto your edit form. Find the 'Field' dropdown menu and set it to OBJECTID. 6. Optionally, drag a Label Control (top-left of control palette) so that you can label your new ObjectID control. Now when you open the binoculars in ArcPad, you will be able to enter values in this new control and it will search on the ObjectID. To use this form for later checkouts, while on the first page of the Get Data For ArcPad wizard, specify the action for checking out your feature class and then click the small check box to the right of the feature class. Navigate to the AXF file you altered in Studio and it will pull the customizations from it.

To summarize the contents of this thread: The Trimble GeoExplorer 6000 series communicates with Trimble software applications using a Trimble proprietary protocol. If you are using Trimble TerraSync software, or the GPScorrect extension for Esri ArcPad software, there is no need for NMEA output. If you want to use other software, or the ArcPad application without the GPScorrect extension, you will need to purchase and activate the NMEA output option first. The above statement is a snippet from the following 6000 series Trimble FAQ under the headline "Do I need NMEA output?": http://trl.trimble.com/docushare/dsweb/Get/Document-528897/GeoExplorer6000Series_CustomerFAQs_0711.pdf As I stated earlier in this thread, I do not have the inside scoop as to why Trimble decided not to include NMEA output as a standard feature in the 6000 series as they have in all previous devices. I ran this question by one of our Trimble resellers and they weren't sure either. My best guess is that Trimble expects that after shelling out a substantial amount of money for this device, you'd want to utilize the device to the best of it's potential. Using the NMEA output is not going to allow the device to obtain the greatest amount of accuracy that it's capable of. I'm under the impression (and have verified with the online pdf for our GeoCollector for ArcPad bundle) that the bundle ESRI sells automatically comes with the Trimble GPScorrect extension. Yes, you would additionally need to purchase the Trimble GPS Analyst extension to post-process that data, but this does not limit you from capturing data in the field. There is the option to include the NMEA upgrade for an additional cost, but it's not necessary if you intend to utilize GPScorrect. If any of you have experienced something different when purchasing a device from ESRI I'd appreciate hearing your feedback. While I'm not a customer service representative, I'd be happy to investigate any problems which you may have run into. Long story short: To utilize ArcPad on the 6000 series GeoExplorer you MUST utilize Trimble GPScorrect or the optional NMEA upgrade. The TSIP protocol no longer works on the 6000 series as it did in previous releases of the GeoExplorer device.

Jeremiah, Without ArcGIS Server you will not utilize ArcGIS Online to store your projects. Using only desktop tools, you will use the Create Mobile Map geoprocessing tool within the Mobile Tools toolbox to create your MobileCache and associated .amp file. The MobileCache and .amp file both need to be stored in a folder. That outer folder is your "project" folder. This project folder needs to be stored in ...\My Documents\ArcGIS Mobile on your Juno. If you don't have an ArcGIS Mobile folder within My Documents, you'll need to create one. Note that there is a space between the words ArcGIS and Mobile, not an underscore. If you have an SD card in your Juno, the project folder can reside in ...\My Documents\ArcGIS Mobile either in main memory or on the SD card. After the project folder containing the MobileCache folder and .amp file is located in the ArcGIS Mobile folder within My Documents, ArcGIS Mobile will recognize it at startup. An important thing to keep in mind is that if you intend to edit or capture new features within a feature class, it must have GlobalID's before you create the MobileCache. Once you're done with your editing, you'll copy the project folder back to your desktop machine and use the Synchronize Mobile Cache tool within the Mobile Tools toolbox to sync the edits back to your geodatabase. Hope this helps.

Michelle, I'm glad you were able to narrow it down. I've found the the process of elimination is the most powerful tool an ArcPad user can utilize. If you'd like to upload your roads layer here (if it's not too large) I'd be happy to poke around at it to see what I can find.

The field type of "Date" automatically includes the Date/Time stamp. I only played with it for a few minutes but I haven't found a way to alter the values in this field via vbscript. Do you have to utilize a Date field or could you use a Text field instead? If you could utilize a text field, I'd set the default value of the text control to populate the current date and then use some vbscript to only grab the first ten characters from the left. Via ArcPad Studio: Go into the properties of the Text control (within the Edit Form) and set it's default value to Now(). This will automatically record the Date/Time within the text field when the edit form is opened. During the onload event of the form, you could do something similar to the following: ThisEvent.Object.Pages("page1").Controls("txtDate_Field").Value = Left(ThisEvent.Object.Pages("page1").Controls("txtDate_Field").Value, 10) What you'll find when you open the edit form is that your Date field (that's a text field type) will have the date written as: 2011-11-09 Just a thought.

Michelle, My guess is that the issue you're running into is data specific, although I'm not ruling out other possibilities. I would focus your attack on the feature class for which you're trying to utilize the Find functionality. 1. Does the issue happen on all feature classes or just a single feature class? 2. If you check only this feature class out to axf and consume it in ArcPad does it still lock up? 3. If you create a new feature class with one field, add a few new points in ArcPad and give them some attributes, check out to axf and consume in ArcPad, does the Find functionality work? If you find that it's just one feature class that's causing the issue, I would try creating a new feature class with identical schema and loading the existing data into it via ArcCatalog. Does the issue still occur?

Chris, I've successfully routed the GPS to an outgoing bluetooth port on a GeoXH via the GPS Connector and consumed it on a laptop. I haven't done more data collection that collecting a few points in the parking lot, but it seemed to work fine. The GeoExplorer series are the only Trimble devices which have the GPS Connector which allow you to send the GPS signal to an outgoing COM port.

In addition to Hannah's reply: If you've attempted an install with all other programs closed and are still running into the same issue - I would attempt to install the program by right-clicking the setup.exe file and selecting "Run as administrator". I've had this clear up installation issues from time to time. When the issue is permissions related it often gets stuck on the installation of the font files. A good thing to test if the above doesn't work: Copy a font file from the C:\Windows\Fonts\ directory and paste it into another folder. Change the name of the file. Copy and paste the renamed file back into the fonts folder. Will it let you paste it? If not, that's where you should focus your attention.

Those seem like appropriate settings. Based upon the bluetooth connection it looks like you're connecting to an external gps. If the baud rate of 4800 gives you any issues, try bumping it up to 9600. Good luck!

Sarah, The "page" object does not have a visibility property. You only have the ability to change the visibility of the following objects via code: StatusBar Console Control Layer ToolBar The syntax for the above objects is: object.Visible = False So, to turn off the visibility for a particular control you would use: ThisEvent.Object.Pages("page1").Controls("txtControl").Visible = False If you simply have a page or two that you don't ever want to show you can delete the page via the Page menu of the edit form. I'm not 100% sure of the exact output you're looking for, so any additional insight would be helpful.

Katie, Unfortunately, this is a known issue in ArcPad 10. CQ00312611: ArcPad 10 extent is not maintained, zoom out occurs after collecting point or accessing map properties. The status of this bug is currently "Open". At this time there aren't any known workarounds.

Sigurd, I don't know of any way that you would limit the extent of the data in a service once it has been published. The limiting of features needs to be done at the time that you "Author Project for ArcGIS Server". One thought I had: If the majority of your data is reference info (which won't be edited) you could think about creating different projects of several extents (of background read-only data) that reside on the mobile device and never change (at least not frequently). Then, you could add the service you create which only contains the layers which will actually be edited. This way, they have different projects of related background data to limit the overall size but can add the same service of editable layers to each project. Hope this helps.

Greg, In order for SSF files to get created during data collection you must be using the Trimble GPScorrect protocol within your GPS Preferences. What mobile device are you using? And on that particular device, within the GPS Preferences of ArcPad, what are your Protocol, Port and Baud rate set to? Additionally, which version of ArcPad, ArcGIS Desktop, GPScorrect, and GPS Analyst are you using? Your data needs to be checked out from a personal geodatabase which has been GPS enabled through the properties of the geodatabase via ArcCatalog (each individual feature class needs to be GPS enabled as well). In ArcPad > GPS Preferences, you need to be sure you're using the GPScorrect protocol. If you are, the SSF files should get generated automatically upon capture of a new feature.

David, Oops. I think I see what's going on. Windows 7 is a bit pickier about what files and folders it will show on your mobile device. If you were to use the File Explorer on your device you should see that there is a My Device\Windows\Fonts folder. On your desktop machine (which I'd bet is Windows 7), it will be necessary to show protected OS system files. Windows Explorer > Organize > Folder and search options > View tab > Un-check the box for "Hide protected operating system files" That should do it.

David, Without digging into this too much.. Are you talking about the symbology once it gets over to your mobile device, or is the same issue present in ArcPad on your desktop? As far as your SDE symbols not appearing in ArcPad (on your mobile device), it's probably just a lack of the specific font file on the mobile device. Via the symbol selector in ArcMap, determine which font file (like esri_220.ttf) the symbol uses. Open the symbol selector > Edit symbol > On the Character Marker tab you will see the font that's being used. Copy that font from the C:\Windows\Fonts folder and paste it into the fonts folder on your mobile device ...\Windows\Fonts. Most of the issues I've seen related to symbology becoming random symbols (like #, !, $, etc) is due to a missing font file on the mobile device. If you try this and don't seen any different, reply with a little more info and we can go from there.
