As a thought... try "salmon;trout;Endangered Species Act;fish" esri uses semi-colon delimited strings in some functions, and I remembered, there are no spaces after the separator. Worth a shot and you can say you covered all bases

Just explore the arcpy geometry objects. If you are using arcmap (see Blake's link) then you will see the generic geometry properties and methods. For other geometry objects, you can examine those as well. Similar information is available for ArcGIS Pro which uses python 3 (currently 3.6.12 )

You would have to read the file, so the parameter would be of type 'file'. Then you have to parse the file by line, check that each path is valid, then define the multivalue list so that people could remove/add to what was in the file. Do you have the script working without this extra layer of complication?

As Blake suggests, since you have a mix of geometry origins (json, arcpy), and your query is essentially simple, it makes less sense now to be creating a bunch of featureclasses and/or featurelayers. Just get the geometry at its root (that is, arcpy geometry objects) and do the check. You basically need a boolean... if True, then do something, if False, move on

The question then becomes... were the coordinates actually in that coordinate system, or was it just defined as such?

No... tested using Pro 2.6.1, python 3.6.10 existing notebook without doing anything existing notebook before quitting new notebook new cell (it just tabbed) new notebook, nothing selected, then tab hence, it works as designed, so the tab thing needs to be checked after a reboot. If it worked before, track back in time to see if you installed/updated any packages or did anything that would have upset the pythonic world.

You don't have to specify a workspace. It is useful to specify if your read and write locations are going to be the same. The alternative is to specify paths to the data, even if you have to temporarily make copies to in_memory or 'memory' or to use temporary workspaces using EnvManager—ArcGIS Pro | Documentation If you remove the idea of setting a workspace as your first line... what does your problem boil down to?

from the help CalculateGeometryAttributes(in_features, geometry_property, {length_unit}, {area_unit}, {coordinate_system}, {coordinate_format}) what did you specify for the coordinate system and coordinate format in the dialog? If you didn't specify anything but left the defaults, then you will get back the information in the coordinate system of the data (as you have confirmed)

From Calculate Geometry Attributes (Data Management)—ArcGIS Pro | Documentation I suspect that you have a projected set of data and you wish to return unprojected data (aka, in decimal degrees). There are two optional parameters that you need to specify in order to get the data to appear in the format you want. Perhaps, you will need to select a GCS WGS84 (a geographic coordinate system) with DD (decimal degree) coordinates.
