Is there an option to turn off auto size by scale for the map viewer? Looks like this option existed in beta, but I cannot find it in the current version. https://www.esri.com/arcgis-blog/products/arcgis-online/mapping/auto-size-by-scale-now-available-in-map-viewer-beta/

Hi Zara. Thanks for the feedback. What I am trying to do is create a dashboard with a point layer that with refresh and two tables that will also refresh. In addition to this I want one "back ground" polygon layer (made from an uploaded shapefile) with labels configured. This morning I configured labels for the polygon in map viewer and then opened it up in map viewer classic. To my surprise the labels persisted in classic! Is this a supported work flow?

I see that I can set an refresh interval for layers in the new map viewer. But I don't see the option for a refresh interval in properties for tables? Is this feature missing?

I need to make a public map. The map's data needs to have a dynamic point layer. The layer will be updated every few minutes. Right now our portal has IWA turned on. There does not appear to be a way to share a map with the public without turning this off. Am I missing something? I am wondering what other organizations have done when they need a public map.... 1) do we set up a new portal for just the public map? 2) I think I might be able to use our gis online for it. But I don't think I will be able to hook it up to a AGS so I would have to upload a point feature class every few minutes. I am not sure the would look seamless to the end-user. i.e. would the map glitch out when I update the data. 3) Other options I am not thinking of.

Thanks Scott! I got the feed setup. We will do them as they come up. For other patches, we are going to try quarterly for now.

We are trying to set up a patching schedule for ArcGIS Enterprise patching. I am thinking quarterly... Does Esri have a recomdation? What sort of schedule do other organizations use?

No problem. I use cx_oracle. https://cx-oracle.readthedocs.io/en/latest/ of course, it only works on sde deployments with oracle as the base technology. You have to install it (it does come as part of the standard library). There is also ArcSDESQLExecute: https://desktop.arcgis.com/en/arcmap/10.6/analyze/arcpy-classes/arcsdesqlexecute.htm It does not require an install (part of arcpy). And it does not care what your dbms technology is. But it is not as nice to use as cx_oracle. So, I almost never use it. Let me know if you are on oracle and I will post a code sample.

What database are you on? We are on oracle. For this sort of stuff, I use SQL embedded in python (or sometimes pure SQL) It is much faster than going through arcpy.

No, we have about 700 columns in our electric network point features. But there are only about 200 unique columns. Also, there are some legacy, aka garbage, columns in there. So, we may be able to get it down to sub 200. I am just wondering what the upper limit of the model is.

What is the maximum number of columns one can have in a UN feature class? We are on Oracle 19. For this database, the maximum is 1000. Am I right in thinking this will be our cut-off?

I did not. I chickened out. I needed a process that I could use in production. So, I was risk risk-averse. Let me know if you give it a go 🙂
