Can you share the url to your storymap. Or to the webmap that likely drives your storymap?

On load basemap zoom level determines web map's zoom levels. So, add your layer, check to add it as basemap layer, save your map, reload the page. Now you should be able to zoom in as much as your layer permits.

Thanks Philip. Great info! Is this new at 10.3? I'm asking because in the past I have always been told/read that Web Adaptor is necessary for forwarding to the correct cluster.

Hi Andrew. I'm also curious as to how you got it resolved. Can you share any info on this? Thanks!

Your Web Adaptor(s) know which http requests to forward to which cluster. They know that for example map service A runs on servers 1,2,3 (because those three make up one cluster) and map service B runs on server 4 (because that server makes up another cluster). Likely your F5 does some kind of a round-robin forwarding, but F5 would forward http request for service A to servers 1,2,3,4 and it would forward requests for service B to servers 1,2,3,4 as well. Using F5 without Web Adaptors, how would you ensure that calls are being sent to the correct cluster?

I have been running a 2-Server site behind a F5 load balancer without web adaptor for ~2 years. It works, but next upgrade will move to using 2 web adaptors behind f5 load balancer. Reasons: SSL certificates easier to manage for ssl-newbies (like myself), being able to take advantage of ArcGIS server clustering (this is the major plus), possibility of using web tier authentication.

Someone must have coded this before - so why not ask here if someone can share successes or failures: I'd love to have a python script that inventories an SDE geodatabase, as it is seen by the end user in the ArcCatalog Window (In other words, I'm not interested in all the tables that exist "under the hood", such as gdb.itmes etc.). The script would iterate over all objects, get the object name, attribute fields, domains, subtypes, etc. and output them to a .csv file or whatever. Should be technically doable. Has anyone attempted/accomplished this before? How far did you take it (i.e. did you get object properties like privileges, editor tracking, archiving, etc.)?

Daniel, so far I can confirm that whatever you and your team changed has led to a major improvement! Thank you for communicating with your Open Data users throughout this process.

Under the website header there is a tab called "Places". I think you click on that, choose a place, and post it there. I think that's how it works.

The documentation at Existing ArcGIS for Server users—Documentation | ArcGIS for Server states: In a multiple-machine site, can some of my GIS servers run 10.3 and others run an earlier version? No. In order for your site to function correctly, all GIS server machines need to be at the same update version. You can upgrade your GIS servers at the same time or sequentially. If you have ArcGIS Web Adaptor configured with your ArcGIS Server site, you will also need to update Web Adaptor to the same update version

I believe the admin user could transfer ownership of the item to him/herself, make the changes, save it,and then transfer the ownership of the item back to the original owner if necessary.

Thanks for the quick reply. Ideally I could configure some properties for each layer at the Open Data site level. These layer properties (or "Dataset" properties, I suppose) would ideally include: - Symbology (include point clustering option) - Labeling - Pop-up formatting (similar to web-map formatting options) - Pop-up functionality (i.e. view attachments, query related records) - Timeslider (i.e. for temporal data it would be really slick to optionally pop open a timeslider instead of using the filter functionality) Some background: I am prototyping an open data site primarily for motor vehicle count data (also include other traffic count data). One point location --> 100's of observation events (for example, one count record for every hour that the counting devise was installed in that place). Currently the best I can do is to create a sql-view that creates a point for every observation event. So I end up with many intersecting points "on top of each other", which is perfectly logical but a bit clumsy for data discovery. So giving clues via symbology, for example, would make it more user friendly.\\ Thanks Daniel, I very much appreciate you keeping folks informed via these forums!

I am in the process of building our Enterprise GIS Server site, and have been doing a lot of testing of various environments and software versions since months(!). This is one of the errors we come across frequently. I have strong evidence that this is a problem caused by network issues. If you have other information please share, but I would bet that nobody subscribed to this thread has had this error with a single-machine site where config-store and server-directories are stored locally on the machine that runs ArcGIS Server - unless of course you were working with tiny extents or something that would make the "reduced study area that is too small for analysis" message an accurate and true description of the problem. If you did, please share that information too, (because then I'll have to revise my hypothesis.) Thank you!

Update: What I have observed is that after making the layer private and then public again, go to open data configuration website and hit the "Update Index" button in the Data Report. If you see the same behavior please post it here to a) help ESRI troubleshoot this and b) confirm that this is an generally acceptable workaround. Thanks!
